Monaca, PA – Following the historic announcement of Shell Chemical Appalachia LLC’S $1 million investment to expand and name Community College of Beaver County’s (CCBC’s) Process Technology facilities, 13 students, including Ellwood City’s Earl Sanders, were named recipients of the 2018 Shell Two-Year Associate in Technology Scholarship.
In celebration of these students’ hard work and dedication, and in recognition of CCBC’s strong partnership with Shell, a scholarship dinner took place in the College’s Learning Resources Center on Tuesday, February 20 at 6:00 p.m.
During the event, students were congratulated for their commitment to excellence, celebrated for their career potential, and placed on a path leading to high caliber careers in the petrochemicals industry.
The following CCBC Process Technology students each received a $2,500 scholarship to continue their studies during the 2018-19 academic year:

The scholarship is funded through a gift from Shell for both full- and part-time Process Technology students and has second-year renewal opportunity based on student performance.
Shell’s senior management team led by Production Manager Hans Jan de Jong; Business Integration Lead Michael Marr; External Relations Adviser Joe Minnitte; Community Liasion Shannon Debes; Technology Manager Arthur Bailey; Workforce Development and Diversity Outreach Manager Frazier Wilson; HR Manager PA Chemicals and CCBC Trustee Brian Gelb; Vice President, Diversity and Inclusion Fred Whipple, and Vice President, Pennsylvania Chemicals Project Hilary Mercer, joined the students and their families, along with CCBC President Dr. Chris Reber; Dean of Workforce Development and Continuing Education John Goberish; Executive Director of Advancement and Sponsored Programs Kolton Codner, and members of the Process Technology program’s faculty and staff.
“When our students succeed we all succeed,” said CCBC President Chris Reber. “These Shell scholarship recipients are shining examples of that philosophy in action. CCBC and Shell Chemicals share a commitment to educating and supporting these students and other residents by ensuring that they are well-prepared for current and future technical, STEM-related jobs in our region.”
In November and December of 2017, a team of managers from Shell spent three days on CCBC’s campus conducting mock interviews and mentoring CCBC’s Process Technology students to determine this year’s recipients based on academic excellence and career potential in the energy industry.
By providing this scholarship, Shell continues to support CCBC’s #1 priority – to recruit and train a diverse and skilled local workforce for careers available at the Potter Township ethane cracker plant and throughout the regional petrochemicals industry.

CCBC’s four-semester associate in applied science degree program in Process Technology has grown to enroll nearly 70 students as of the fall 2017 semester. To guarantee program quality and credibility, the College has partnered with the North American Process Technology Alliance (NAPTA), industry advisers, and community leaders.
