Joseph Roth is now the all-time leading scorer in Ellwood City boys basketball history. The senior knocked down a free throw midway through the second quarter that gave him 1,939 career points, breaking the career scoring record previously held by Dan Aloi. Ellwood City collected a section victory on the road Tuesday night, picking up a 58-32 victory over the Riverside Panthers. Joseph Roth led all scorers with 19 points and was among seven Wolverines who scored in the victory.  Roth finished with 13 rebounds and five assists. McDade, Fox Combine to Lead Panthers To 69-58 Victory Over Lions

The inside-outside duo of Darren McDade and Drake Fox combined to score 36 points as the Riverside Panthers defeated New Brighton 69-58 Wednesday night. Fox drained four 3-pointers on the evening while McDade poured in 12 first half points to lead the victors. Panthers Split Tip-Off Tournament, Turn Focus To Regular Season

The Riverside Panthers boys basketball regular season got under way this past week as the team traveled to participate in two, separate tip-off tournaments. The team settled with a split, defeating Wilmington on Friday before falling to Mercer on Saturday. On Friday, Drake Fox erupted for 20 points to lead the Panthers to its 49-26 victory. After trailing by as many as 20 points late in the third quarter, the visiting Riverside Panthers rallied to force overtime and pull away for a thrilling 50-47 victory over Ellwood City Tuesday night. Sophomore Drake Fox’s 3-pointers with under 15 seconds in regulation knotted the game. Ellwood City had led 35-15 with two and half minutes remining in the third quarter after holding a comfortable 22-12 advantage after a relatively low scoring first half. Ellwood City will be pre-selling basketball tickets for the Tuesday, January 14th basketball game against Riverside. Ellwood City High School will presale Student tickets for $2.00. The Ellwood City boys basketball team split two games this week, while Riverside boys team fell on a last second shot to Neshannock.
