PHOTOS: Franklin Township Community Days

Dark clouds loomed Tuesday evening, but after rain came and passed, the 7th Annual Franklin Township Community Days shined with cheer and excitement. The event, held at the Giant Eagle plaza parking lot, consisted of CPR training, Fire Safety, Local Radio Station, free children’s activities such as a bounce house, slide, petting zoo, balloon twisting, face painting, games and a variety of vendors. The local event is part of America’s National Night Out against crime.  National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors, residents, Township Officials, Police, & Fire Departments while bringing back a true sense of community.

FIREWORKS VIDEO, 2019 Ellwood City Festival Summary

Over 150 vendors came out to celebrate Ellwood City’s way to kick off summer over the weekend. Live bands played, painted rocks hidden and found, dancers performed, and winners were announced. To conclude the festivities, fireworks were set off in the Ellwood City football stadium. It looked to be a battle to get fireworks, but our community pulled through, led by 26-year-old Eric Rayner who helped stoke fundraising efforts that doubled projections. The annual Ellwood City Arts, Crafts, Foods and Entertainment Festival was held this past weekend in Ewing Park.  Early entertainment included the annual Little Miss Firecracker pageant, won this year by Aria Cannon, and the annual Ellwood City Ledger 10k Race, while food and daily entertainment captivated those in attendance throughout the weekend. Over 150 vendors participated in the event this year with new vendors making up about one-third of the participation. PHOTOS: 2019 Lincoln High School Graduation

The Class of 2019 has graduated! 117 Lincoln High School seniors as well as an additional 38 students from Lawrence County Vo-Tech received diplomas as part of the ceremonies at the Leslie H. Sabo Memorial Auditorium Thursday evening. Nine students graduated with high honors: Katherine Bowser, Alex Fotia, Chloe Kuffer, Patricia McMillin, Caden Myers, Kaitlyn Navolio, Madeline Spadafore, and Reece Wilson. PHOTOS: “Walk To Honor” In Ellwood City

The annual Ellwood City Memorial Day parade was held on Monday, May 27. The parade began on the Veterans Bridge on Fifth Street at 10:00 a.m and proceeded to Crescent Avenue, over to Eighth Street, down to Lawrence Avenue, back to Fifth and then onto Spring Avenue into Legion Park, where the 45-minute memorial event was held. The parade traveled to several veterans, local leaders spoke, the borough’s civic choral performed, and there was a flag-raising ceremony. PHOTOS: Late Rally Spoils Softball Senior Night

After trailing for much of the game, a four-run rally by Ellwood City was later outdone by a 5-run final frame by Neshannock leading to a 10-7 road victory for the Lancers at Stiefel Park on Wednesday. The Wolverines rallied in the fifth inning and laid claim to a two-run cushion entering the seventh inning, but Neshannock plated two runs to tie the game and later in the inning saw Jesse Fehrs double home the go-ahead run. Dici, Court to Serve as Officers of State Association

Council President Jude Dici and Mayor Anthony Court acknowledge recent honors they have received. At the Pa State Association of Boroughs Convention, to be held in June in Hershey, Dici will be sworn in as the President of the PSAB’s Councils Association and Court will be the Vice President of the PSAB Association of Mayors.


PHOTOS: Ellwood City Annual Easter Egg Hunt

Hundreds of children, of all ages, swarmed the Ewing Park grounds on a spring-like Saturday for the 24th Annual Ellwood City Easter Egg Hunt. According to their social media page, “[the hunt] had roughly 720 children lots of candy got handed out.along with cookies from Eat N Park. This was one of the best attendance we have had in a long time. The support we got from our community was amazing” The free event featured over 9,000 colored eggs and 30 golden eggs handed out. Victories For Both Ellwood Softball Teams On Tuesday

Varsity Softball Team Defeats Beaver Falls; Improves To 3-1 After spotting the Tigers a 2-0 lead on two singles and two errors in the top of the first, The Lady Wolverines would score the next 17 runs to win the three-inning mercy rule shortened game by a final of 17-2. Ellwood City would score 6 runs in the second inning, all with two outs, to take command.  Kyla Servick started the rally with a two-out single.
