VIDEO: Lawmaker Calls For Investigation Into Ellwood Medical Center

Employees are still on the job, keeping the Ellwood City Medical Center open and safe, but without pay.  This may change as state and Lawrence County lawmakers are now calling for an investigation into the medical center. Last week, employees finally received good checks owed before Christmas – two weeks late – amid a series of recently reported payroll problems. According to a KDKA report, services have been dropped and departments have been closed. The century old medical center has gone from around 400 people to about 190. A KDKA-TV news van was parked just outside the Ellwood City Medical Center entrance this morning, with video equipment staging what could be another news update on the status of what has become regional news this week. Multiple Pittsburgh-based media sources have reported on the small, financially struggling western Pennsylvania hospital that has delayed paying its workers and now the works may find themselves without health insurance. Ellwood City held their annual holiday events this past weekend – Friday night’s Light Up Night and Saturday afternoon’s Christmas Parade invited families and friends downtown Ellwood City for holiday festivities. VIDEO: Multi-Vehicle Crash In Slippery Rock Township

According to multiple news reports, a nine-vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer closed down parts of Route 422 in Slippery Rock Township Wednesday evening. According to video reports, numerous vehicles, including a New Castle Transit bus, were stopped at a red light at the intersection of Routes 422 and 388 (near Sheetz) when a tractor-trailer did not slow down before ramming into the last stopped vehicle. It created a chain reaction causing the vehicles to slam into one another. Multiple injuries were reported. Big Foot The Movie Set To Film Sequel

On May 29, 2015 the locally filmed ‘Big Foot The Movie’ was released. The hilarious horror-comedy/yinzer/redneck film was a great success propped by local staging, talent and filming. It had a cast of locally known actors such as ‘Pittsburgh Dad’ Curt Wootton and Joanie Dodds, while it was filmed by Riverside graduate Jared Show. New Brighton backer Ashton Fath scored with less than a minute in regulation to boost the Lions to a 22-16 road victory over the Panthers Friday night. The Riverside Panthers used a 127-yard rushing performance by LeMarcus Cleckley to knock off the Ellwood City Wolverines 21-7 to capture the Rivell Cup victory. Cleckley found the end zone in the third quarter while quarterback Ben Hughes connected on two touchdown strikes, a 14-yard score to Nathan Sciarro in the first half and a 6-yard connection to Nic Ottaviani, to lead the Panthers (5-2, 3-2) offense to victory.  Ottaviani also finished with 46 yards rushing while Sciarro finished with a game-high five catches. VIDEO: Building Partially Collapses On Lawrence Ave

According to multiple news reports, a portion of a brick building on the 400 block of Lawrence Avenue fell outward Thursday afternoon in Ellwood City.  Parts of brick at 425 Lawrence Avenue, Franus Architects Associates, fell outward and onto the roof of the neighboring building, Taste of China, causing some noise and chaos.
