Basketball Week Summary: Riverside and Ellwood City Teams All Suffer Conference Losses

The Riverside Lady Panthers experienced their first lost 51-39 to hosting Neshannock in a conference game yesterday on Monday.

Riverside started out in the lead, ending the first half 21-12. However, the third quarter was far from their finest moment as the Lady Panthers only saw two points to the Lady Lancers’ 14. A 25-16 final quarter saw Riverside go home defeated for the first time.

Riverside’s offense centered around Katie Stang’s 24 points. For the Lady Lancers, Aiden Noga had 19 and Carmie Matarazzo 18.

Riverside travels to Ellwood City on Dec. 29 for a non-conference rivalry game.

Ellwood City Unable to Overcome Blackhawk’s Lead

Blackhawk defeated visiting Ellwood City in a conference game yesterday.

Ellwood’s Rick Roth had 14 points and Nick Ioanilli and Anthony Roth each had 10. Ellwood fell behind in the first half 34-21 and was only able to stay even in the second half allowing Blackhawk to maintain its 13 point lead.

The Wolverines host Union on Dec. 28.

Beaver Defeats Ellwood City (added at 9:20 a.m.)

The Lady Wolverines lost to Beaver 63-38 in a home game on Monday.

Although trailing behind in the first half, Ellwood severely fall behind in a 25-5 third quarter. A fourth quarter counterattack couldn’t make up the difference.

Karrington Ketterer was the highest scorer in the game with 21 points. Allie McKelvey was Ellwood’s second highest with 11.

Ellwood City hosts Riverside on Dec. 29 for the LGKG Holiday Classic.

Riverside Loses to Visiting Lincoln Park

The Panthers fell to visiting Lincoln Park 79-56 in a conference game yesterday.

Lincoln Park secured a dominant lead in the first half and although the second half was more even, Lincoln Park didn’t budge.

Dylan Speicher led the Panthers with 21 points. Also scoring for the Panthers were Jesse Fornataro, nine, Justin Baust, eight, Ty Thellman, seven, Austin Dambach, five, Mike Boswell, four, and Jason Dambach, two.

Riverside’s next game is after the holidays in an away game at Laurel on Jan. 5.
