Gibbons Reminds Area Residents of Approaching Property Tax/Rent Rebate deadline

State Rep. Jaret Gibbons, D-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence, reminded constituents today of the Dec. 31 deadline for 2014 Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program applications.

“It’s easy to lose track of time around the holidays,” Gibbons said. “Before you know it, it’ll be a new year and too late to file an application. This program is geared to helping seniors and those who are disabled and I don’t want anyone to miss out what is rightfully theirs.”

The rebate program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians 65 or older, widows and widowers 50 or older, and people with disabilities 18 or older. The income limit is $35,000 a year for homeowners and $15,000 annually for renters, and half of Social Security income is excluded.

The maximum standard rebate is $650, but supplemental rebates for certain qualifying homeowners can boost rebates to $975. The Revenue Department automatically calculates the supplemental rebates for qualifying homeowners.

To learn more, or for free help in filing an application, visit Gibbons’ office at 438 Line Ave. in Ellwood City or call 724-752-1133.

Since the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program’s 1971 inception, older and disabled adults have received more than $5.9 billion in property tax and rent relief. The program is funded by the Pennsylvania Lottery and revenue from slots gaming.
