Joseph J. Caravella Sr., 90

Joseph J. Caravella Sr., 90, of West Pittsburg passed away Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015 at his residence surrounded by his family following a one year illness.

Born Aug. 5, 1925 in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late Joseph L. and Edna Jacobs Caravella. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Clara Fosnaught Caravella as they were married Feb. 14, 1947.

Joe graduated from Mount Jackson High School. He retired from Sharon Steel following 39 years as the Assistant Superintendent in the Masonry Department. He also owned and operated Caravella Produce Farm for many years. Joe served three years in the Navy during WWII. He was a member of the New Castle Legion Post 343 and a life member of the New Castle Moose Lodge 51 and of Sylvan Height Golf Course. He enjoyed golf, travel and casinos, but his favorite time was spent with family.

In addition to his wife, Clara, survivors include two sons, Terry (Melonie) Caravella and Kenneth (Pam) Caravella, all of West Pittsburg; two sisters, Lorrie Grinnen and Peg Grinnen both of Wampum; two daughter in laws, Glory Caravella of Neshannock Twp., Mary Louise Caravella of New Castle; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Joseph and Rick Caravella, a brother, Robert Caravella, sister, Betty Kumrow, and a grandson, Joseph J. Caravella III.

A Private Blessing service will be held at the Marshall Funeral Home, Wampum on Saturday at 1 p.m. with Rev. Father Larry Adams of St. Vitus Church officiating. Military rites will be offered by the Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will follow in Castleview Memorial Gardens.
