Rotary Club October Meeting

The Rotary Club of Ellwood City holds their weekly meetings on Thursdays at 6 p.m. at the Connequenessing Country Club. In Late October the guest speaker was Lenore Bazzichi who is one of the founding members of the Ellwood City Revitalization Effort. She stated that Stage One of the project is now completed. The Green space in the center of town has been host to numerous concerts and enjoyed by many. Stage Two is underway which includes more infrastructure and improvements. It needs much community support and funding. Government grants will help.

In November the club hosted four members of the Ellwood City Wolves Club: Tony Celli, George Celli, Mike DeOtto and Dennie Boariu. Celli reported on the success of Octoberfest and presented President Dave Braymer with a check for the Rotary’s portion of the proceeds.

During the meeting, three Rotarians were awarded with Paul Harris Fellowships. This is a high honor for those Rotarians that exemplify the Rotary Motto of “Service Above Self.” Rotarians Alisa Hatchett, Jim Mason and Terri Stramba were presented with a certificate and pin. Additionally, Paul Harris Plus One Pins were awarded to Marilyn Barnhart, Louise Carroll, David Barensfeld and Carol Kinney.

Past District Governor Mike Visconti presented the program for the evening on the Rotary Foundation. He explained how the funds were used and administered. Funds go towards projects such as scholarships, health, shelter and education. Visconti was accompanied by his wife, JoAnn.
