Route 288 Zelienople Road Reopening Thursday in Franklin Township

Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is announcing the reopening of a section of Zelienople Road (Route 288) in Franklin Township, Beaver County, will occur Thursday, November 4 weather permitting. A section of Zelienople Road between Lake Road and Old Furnace Road is expected to reopen to traffic by 5 p.m. Thursday.  The roadway has been closed continuously since July 26 for the Route 288 realignment project sponsored by the Zelienople Airport Authority.  Additionally, Lake Road (Route 1010) will open by 5 p.m. Thursday. Route 288 Realignment Project Ongoing, On Track For Completion As Scheduled

Barring any unforeseen field issues, the realignment and construction of Route 288 near the Zelienople Airport in on track for completion as scheduled. The roadway is currently closed and under detour as part of a 102-day closure for the realignment project. According to PENNDOT spokesperson Steve Cowan, the contractor anticipates completing the work within the contract parameters. In its official press release, PennDOT District 11 has announced the long-term closure of a section of Zelienople Road (Route 288) in Franklin Township, Beaver County, that will begin Monday morning, July 26 weather permitting. At a virtual public meeting held on Monday, Joe Neubert, project manager for Independence Excavating, announced that the realignment of Route 288 at Zelienople Road and Route 1010, Lake Road, adjacent to Runway 17 of the Zelienople Municipal Airport, will begin Monday, July 19, 2021. 2021 Detour Planned For Route-288 Near Zelienople Airport

No worries for those last minute shoppers heading to Cranberry Township via Route-288 thru Zelienople. Zelienople Airport Construction Project to Address Safety

The Zelienople Airport and the road surrounding it, are under construction, but not for the reasons that some area residents speculate. Theories and rumors would have drivers believe that the runway is being expanded for FedEx and UPS type planes for their nearby fulfillment centers, but Airport Manager, David Holman said that’s simply not true. “It’s complete rumor mill about FedEx or UPS using the airport,” Holman said. “The project is for obstruction removal in the approach surface of the airport.  It does shift the runway further north, although the overall length is only 67 feet longer.  It’s a safety…
