Both local girls volleyball teams have started their respective regular season campaigns this month. Ellwood City has seen significant gains in its short program history while the Riverside girls are starting their own journey with the launch of their volleyball program. For the Wolverines, their volleyball program has ascended to new levels over the past few years. The Riverside swimming team earned a pair of golds in the 200 and 400 meter free relays at the 2021 WPIAL Class-AA Swimming Championships on Saturday at Upper St. Clair High School while Joseph Roth earned a WPIAL gold medal in the individual 100-meter backstroke and set a WPIAL record along the way. The first place finish in the 200 meter free relay event earned Riverside a repeat gold medal performance. Riverside Swimming Looking To Make Splash at WPIAL Championships

The co-op swimming team consisting of Ellwood City and Riverside athletes is off to the WPIAL Championships this weekend carrying their third consecutive undefeated Class-AA section title with them. Class AA and Class AAA championship meets March 6-7 at Upper St. Clair High School. Local athletes set to compete include senior Graham Kralic (50 freestyle), sophomore Sam Kline (100 freestyle), freshman Joe Roth (100 backstroke), junior Alex Roth (100 freestyle), and freshman Ryan Turner (100 freestyle). Riverside Boys Relay Team Captures Gold In Day 1 Of WPIAL Championships

The Riverside Panthers boys’ swim relay team took home WPIAL gold on Thursday in Day 1 of the WPIAL swimming championships at Joe C. Trees Pool at the University of Pittsburgh. The boys’ relay team placed first in the boys’ AA 200-freestyle. In an exciting finish, the Panthers relay team secured its victory by .01 seconds to claim its championship. Walley Earns WPIAL Gold, Advances to PIAA Championships

Ellwood City’s Austin Walley advanced to the PIAA Wrestling State Championships in Hershey in March by placing 1st overall in the 182-pound weight class at the Southwest Regional Championships held at IUP last weekend. Walley used a 7-4 decision victory to defeat Patrick Cutchember of Quaker Valley. The victory, his third in nine days over Cutchember earned Walley first WPIAL championship. “I’m feeling great,” said Walley in an interview with the Post-Gazette. “My training is going well.” The WPIAL ended up with four champions. After a close meet on February 13th, Riverside boys varsity swimming edged out Beaver 99-83, earning their second undefeated section championship. Girls swimming also claimed a win, beating the Bobcats 89-85 for an overall a 6-2 season record. Austin Walley Collects First WPIAL Title

Ellwood City senior standout Austin Walley collected his first WPIAL Championship over the weekend at the 2020 WPIAL AA Championship in Canon-McMillan, bringing home the first-ever WPIAL title for Ellwood City wrestling. Walley used three consecutive victories via fall during his 182-pound weight class championship run.  Walley defeated Shane Smith of Fort Cherry, Collin Milko of Carlynton, and Patrick Cutchember of Quaker Valley. Riverside Boys Golf Team Advances To WPIAL Team Finals

The Riverside Boys Golf Team advanced to the 2019 WPIAL Class-AA Team Finals after posting a team score of 430 on Tuesday at Beaver Valley Golf Club. Skyler Fox fired a round of 72 (32-40) to lead the Panthers while fellow senior Justin Hand finished with a round of 75 for the Panthers. Ethan Ilarski (95), Logan Greer (88), and Liam Grinner (100) also contributed to the team’s total. The Riverside swim team made a splash in the WPIAL championships this past weekend. On the first day, February 28, the Panthers were led by the 200-yard medley relay team of Alexander Roth, Josiah Shaffer, Graham Kralic and Donnie Paracca, which placed second with a time of 1:38.53, less than two-tenths of a second behind Indiana.
