Route 288 Wampum Avenue Utility Work Begins September 8th

Pittsburgh – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing utility work on Wampum Avenue (Route 288) in Ellwood City Borough and Wayne Township, Lawrence County will begin Tuesday, September 8 weather permitting. Beginning Tuesday, single-lane alternating traffic restrictions controlled by flaggers will occur on Wampum Avenue between College Street and Rainbow Drive from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM daily through late November. Crews from Team Fishel will conduct gas line work for Columbia Gas. PennDOT is not involved in this work and is providing this information as a public service announcement only. Bernstine Announces Lawrence Counties Receiving Funding from Natural Gas Drilling Impact Fees

HARRISBURG – Rep. Dick Allen Mural Dedication Schedule For Saturday

The mural honoring Dick Allen, who was inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame this past July, will be dedicated Saturday at 4:00 PM in Wampum. Allen’s son, Richard Allen, Jr. of Florida,, and his brother, Ron Allen of Ohio, will be among the family members in attendance. Award-winning artist Ernel Martinez from South Carolina, who created the mural, will be honored at the dedication. Pitt Race To Close At End Of 2025

According to news sources and a social media post, Pittsburgh International Race Complex will be sold to a developer. The track will honor its remaining 2025 dates before its closing. Located in Wampum, less than 10 miles outside of Ellwood City, Pitt Race has served racers since the early 2002, when it opened as BeaveRun Motorsports Complex. Wampum native Dick Allen, a seven-time All-Star and two-time home run champion, earned an election to the National Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday via the Classic Baseball Era Committee process. Wampum Resident Indicted for Producing and Possessing Child Sexual Abuse Material

PITTSBURGH – A resident of Wampum, Pennsylvania, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on charges of Production of Material Depicting the Sexual Exploitation of a Minor and Possession of Material Depicting the Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan announced today. The three-count Indictment named Thomas Hyatt-Baney, 21, formerly of Wampum, Pennsylvania, as the sole defendant.
