ECASD’s Board of Directors Votes Down Motion to Suspend Nepotism Policy

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors voted down a motion to suspend Board Policy 304.2 Nepotism for the hiring of a Building Clerk at Perry Lower Intermediate during its May 9 Regular Meeting. “Yes” votes came from Directors Jean Biehls, Dr. Claire Fauzey, and Director Robyn Nicklas. Directors Kathy Tillia, Kathy Galbreath, Norman Boots, and Kevin Boariu voted “No.” Director Erica Gray was not in attendance. ECASD’s Board of Directors Tables Motion to Dissolve the District’s Soccer Program

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors voted to table a motion to dissolve the District Soccer program during their regular meeting Thursday night. The consideration was originally on the agenda after interest in the program seemed to dwindle when a Google Document for sign up wasn’t completed by enough students to develop enough of a roster to hold practices or maintain a consistent team. Ellwood City Family Center Offering Six-Week Indoor Soccer Session

The Ellwood City Family Center on the North Side of Ellwood City will be offering a six week, indoor soccer session for grade school kids interested in the game of soccer. “Our goal is to enhance soccer in the community,” says director and coach John DiBuono. “We plan to teach the game of soccer through the development of individual skills, fitness, teamwork and sportsmanship.” The one-hour sessions will take place on Thursday nights beginning on Thursday, February 15th for grades 5 and 6 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The dates are February 15, 22, 29, and March 7, 14,…

ELLWOOD CITY CROSS COUNTRY: Ellwood City swept Beaver Falls and Shenango handedly on Tuesday. Four Wolverine runners took the top four spots in the boys overall. Junior Bradley Custer led the way with an overall low time of 16:57.31. The strong team effort earned a 15-50 win over Beaver Falls and 16-49 win over Shenango. Ellwood City Soccer Hosting Free Clinic

Interested in trying Soccer? The Ellwood City Soccer Boosters are hosting a FREE clinic for Ellwood City and Shenango students (including Cyber, Charter and Lincoln Park) currently in 8th-11th grade on Sunday, February 26, 2023. The clinic will be held at the Lincoln High School big gymnasium and will be led by BC United coaches and staff.  It is open to both male and female student athletes. High school sports are back in full swing. Football, soccer, and tennis are among the popular sports for students at Riverside. Ellwood City School Board Approves Soccer Funding

The Ellwood City School Board voted unanimously Thursday to approve funding of no more than $4,300 to the boys and girls teams for transportation and referee costs. Before the vote, during the visitors comment portion, numerous soccer supporters spoke on behalf of the teams. Jerry Hermann, visitor, told the board saying no is saying no to a dedicated group of kids. “Be encouragers, not discouragers,” Hermann said. Ellwood City School Board to Vote on Soccer Program Funding

The soccer debate continues within the Ellwood City School Board. During the board’s September 9 agenda meeting, board continued the back and forth discussion regarding whether or not funding should be provided to the boys and girls soccer club. Three players from the boys “club” were in attendance. One player Levi Smith spoke on behalf of the team. He assured the board that the team is dedicated to the season as well as growing the roster through recruiting efforts. Board to Re-evaluate Soccer Program Funding in September

During  a special board meeting on Friday morning, Ellwood City School Board decided to allow the soccer program to use the Ewing Park School property for practice and to order nets to facilitate those practices, according to District Superintendent Joseph Mancini, who was reached for comment following the meeting. He said the games will continue to be held at Stiefel Park. He added that the board will re-evaluate the funding request at the September board meeting.
