Riverside Girls Basketball Ready To Ball With First-Year Head Coach

The Riverside Lady Panthers will travel to face Mohawk on Monday, January 11th before settling in to its first home game on Thursday, January 14th versus the Laurel Spartans. The team will welcome the long overdue season and begin with new faces, players and coach, on the bench. “We lost a lot of scoring due to graduation, so we will need players to step up into the role of scoring production,” said first year head coach Renee Drake. PHOTOS: Chesko Pours In 25 Points, Lady Panthers Defeat Wolverines

Brielle Chesko drained four 3-pointers en route to a game-high 25 points to lead the visiting Panthers to a 51-31 Section 1-3A victory over rival Ellwood City on Thursday. Marley Wolf added 13 points for Riverside (11-11, 4-10). Chesko easily paced the victors, accounting for nearly half of the team scoring totals. Kyla Servick led the Ellwood City (3-17, 1-13) with 17 points in defeat. The Lady Wolverines claimed a 42-31 rivalry victory over Riverside on their home court Monday night. Balanced scoring a third quarter spurt helped the Wolverines pull away in the tightly contested game. Ellwood City held Riverside to a single field goal in a 3rd quarter that stretched what was a five-point halftime lead out to an 11-point cushion. For some, the buzz of Friday Night’s boys basketball game may have worn off by the end of the weekend, but if anyone needed another reason to get excited for high school basketball action, the buzz resurfaced Monday Night during the Panthers and Wolverines girls basketball game in Ellwood City. Sydney Wolf Captures 1,000th Career Point In Riverside Victory

Lady Panther senior Sydney Wolf scored a game high 25 points Thursday, surpassing 1,000 career points, in 56-38 victory over Hopewell in their opening game of the LGKG Holiday Classic. Riverside outscored the Vikings 24-6 in a decisive 3rd quarter that pushed their slim, 2-point halftime lead. In a late game upset, the Riverside girls basketball team overthrew Brentwood for a narrow 3-point victory in Wednesday’s 45-42 game against Ambridge High School. Riverside was pinned down in the first half 25-15, but came came back in the second half, especially in the 18-8 final quarter, to narrowly snatch victory from Brentwood. Top scorer Katie Stang delivered 26 points, 16 from field goals and 10 from free throws. Senior Katie Stang took advantage of the senior spirit and scored 39 points, breaking her high score record last year by seven. Stang has scored 895 points during her junior and senior years. The Lady Panthers dominated New Brighton 65-22 in the Senior Night conference game held on Thursday, Feb. 4. Weekly Basketball Recap: Ellwood City Girls Defeat Hopewell in Conference Game

The Ellwood City girls basketball team played two conference games this week, losing a close away game to Beaver 42-35 on Monday, Jan. 25 and defeating Hopewell 51-30 at a home game yesterday. In Monday’s game, the Lady Wolverines trailed Beaver 38-24 by the third quarter. However, a fierce counterattack in the final quarter gave Ellwood 11-4, closing the gap but not enough to even the score.
