V-E Day Celebrated; Ceremony Held On Saturday

Victory in Europe (V-E) Day is celebrated annually on May 8th to recognize the formal acceptance by the Allies of World War II of Germany’s unconditional surrender. Mayor Court To Speak At V-E Day Ceremony

Mayor Anthony Court will be the guest speaker at a Wreath-laying Ceremony in honor of the 76th Anniversary of the Allied Victory in Europe (V-E Day) to be held at the World War Two monument in front of the Ellwood City Municipal Building on Saturday, May 8 at 10:00 a.m. After Mayor Court’s address, the wreath laying will be done by the Ellwood City American Legion J. Mayor Court Announces 2021 Beautification Award Program

Get ready, let’s bring our community back to life! It’s that wonderful time of the year again and Mayor Anthony J. Court is starting his “Beautification Award Program”. This is the 11th year for the program and, according to the Mayor’s office, each year there are more and more nominations. This year, six lucky winners will be chosen from May 1st through June 15th. Mayor Court Swears In Officer Joshua Sipe

A recently hired police officer was sworn in by Mayor Anthony Court on November 30, 2020. Officer Joshua Sipe is a full-time officer. Ellwood City Police Department now has 10 full-time officers and 3 part-time officers in the department.  The new officer was sworn in at Mayor Court’s office in the Ellwood City Municipal Building. Proclamation Presented to EC Girls Volleyball Team

Mayor Anthony J. Court presented a proclamation to the Ellwood City girls volleyball team, remarking on the team’s outstanding accomplishments. The team finished with a 17-1 overall record earning a Class 2A, Section 1 championship and WPIAL Finals appearance. “Proud of this special group on an outstanding season!” said Mayor Court in a statement. “Congratulations girls!” The Wolverines were ousted by North Catholic 3-1 in the WPIAL Class 2A championship November 7 at Fox Chapel, suffering their lone defeat of the season. Borough of Ellwood City Hires New Part-Time Police Officer

The Borough of Ellwood City has hired a new part-time police officer. Officer Salvador “Sal” Zepeda started his first day on the job Wednesday after being hired by Ellwood City Borough Council on Tuesday, October 13, 2020. Zepeda is the departments third part-time officer. Mayor Anthony Court and Council President George Celli swore in the new officer who started his duties this week.  According to the ECPD, Mayor Court and Council President Celli were instrumental in getting Officer Zepeda hired. Mayor Court Announces Weekly WXED Radio Show

Mayor Anthony J. Court has announced this week a weekly radio show on WXED FM 107.3. DJ Ricky Venezie hosts to Mayor Court weekly with Mary Ann Schaffer also involved in the segment. Each week Mayor Court informs the listeners to what’s happening in the city. Ricky V. calls the show “The Pulse of the City” and no one knows more about Ellwood City than Mayor Court. “Angeline Riccardo Day” Declared In Ellwood City

Mayor Anthony J. Court has declared Tuesday, September 15, 2020 as “Angeline Riccardo Day” in Ellwood City. Mayor Court presented a proclamation in observance of Mrs. Riccardo’s 100th birthday. Mrs. Riccardo was married for 57 years to Armond Riccardo, has 3 children, James, Ron and Allan and was blessed with 8 grandchildren. “Mrs. Riccardo is an outstanding citizen that won the respect of her family, friends, neighbors and acquaintances,” said Mayor Court in a statement. Victory Over Japan Day, also known as VJ Day, and its 75-year anniversary was celebrated this week. Ellwood City Mayor Anthony Court & WW II Veterans from Ellwood City and American Legion Post #157, along with Lawrence County and Beaver County Honor Guards celebrated VJ Day at the American Legion Park. Mayor Anthony J. Court presented a Proclamation to American Legion Post, Commander Joe Fisher commending the victory. Mayor Urges Community to Slow Down; Council Hires Part-Time Officer

During Monday’s Borough Council Meeting, Mayor Anthony Court had one message for the community: Slow down and obey traffic signs. Court warned that if he continues to receive complaints about speeding and other traffic violations, police will setup points of surveillance and tickets will be issued. “Gotta slow down,” Court said. “It’s that simple.” He said numerous complaints have been made about violations on Sunset Boulevard and Perry Street as well as other areas in the borough.
