Letter To The Editor: Dici A Must For Re-Election

When Ellwood City Manager Bob Villella was terminated in January 2018, the council began accepting applications for the position. Numerous applicants did not meet the advertised requirements, while others withdrew during the interview process. From the time of Villella’s dismissal until former borough manager Joe Cioffi came back on an interim basis in August 2018, council President Judith Dici performed the duties without pay. During this time, Dici garnered $500,000, administered by HOMES, for the rehabilitation of homes of low- and moderate-income property owners and met with DCED representatives to better evaluate needs of municipal offices. Dici has become involved…

Letter to the Editor: Little League Field

Attached is the original letter that I presented to the school board regarding the Lincoln High School Varsity and Junior High softball teams on Thursday evening. Dear School Board Members, My name is Bill Garroway.  I come to you today as a borough resident, property owner,  and taxpayer.  I attended Wayne School at the elementary level and am a proud member of the Lincoln High School Class of 1987.  I am also the leader of the summer youth fastpitch softball program, Junior High School Softball Head Coach, and Varsity Softball Assistant Coach. My question is can someone tell me why…

Letter to the Editor: Ellwood Medical Center – Americore

How much do you know, or care, about what is happening at the Ellwood City Medical Center now operated by Americore, which was once our beloved community hospital? There’s been some news about Americore’s financial difficulties elsewhere, and according to Americore, they’ve been settled.  However, according to court documents obtained by The Lee Daily Register from the Supreme Court Clerk of New York the headline story reads “All Americore Hospitals Tied Up In Supreme Court Legal Battle.”  Specifically mentioned in the list: “Ellwood City Hospital, Ellwood City Medical Center LLC, Ellwood Medical LLC, Ellwood Medical Center Operations LLC.” Perhaps this…

Letter to the Editor: Proud to be Involved…Small Town Big Living.

As many of you may know, I am currently the Director of the Ellwood City Area Chamber of Commerce [ECACC]. I am very proud to lead this enthusiastic group of volunteers that serve our area. We have great schools, a local newspaper, wonderful businesses, active churches, a community…

Letter to the Editor – Council’s Decision to Save Money Will Have Opposite Effect

As is often the case with government, the recent decision by Ellwood City Borough Council to recoup costs from local non-profits is likely to have the exact opposite effect from what is desired. These actions are being taken in the name of fiscal responsibility, but the reality is that the Borough gets much more benefit from these groups than what it contributes. If the Borough were to put a bid out to hire a contractor to clean up the waterways, how much do you think it would cost? What about hiring bands to play at the plaza downtown or paying…

Letter to the Editor: Wampum Appreciation Post

Dear Editor, The town of Wampum is small in population, just 620 when everyone is at home, but big in heart and action.  Wampum is midway between New Castle and Beaver Falls and just a short drive west of Ellwood City.  This past Saturday, December 2nd, we held our 45th Annual Wampum Area Christmas Parade, and our little town’s population swelled into the thousands, our largest crowd ever. Thanks to many prayers, the weather was perfect and the Parade of 65 Units went off with very few glitches, and our small town of Wampum had its 1 hour and 5…
