Ellwood City Co-Ed Golf Team is enjoying some early season success, collecting victories in its first two matches of the season. The Wolverines opened up the season with a home victory over Union on Friday (223-259) and collected another victory at home on Tuesday, defeating New Castle (214-256). A second place finish by Anthony Spadafore and strong performance by Colton Crizer led Ellwood City to its cross country victory on Tuesday at Laurel. Ellwood City defeated host Laurel, (17-44), Union (15-50), and Freedom (15-50) at the meet. Spadafore finished with a time of 18:15, good for 2nd place, while Joel Brooks (18:23, 3rd place), Crizer (18:31, 4th place), Ian Stoneking (19:33, 6th place), and Nick Wise (19:39, 7th place) helped in the victory. “Crizer ran a great race,” said head coach Mark Hall. Ellwood City posted a clean sweep Thursday afternoon with girls tennis, co-ed golf, and volleyball all collecting victories. The Ellwood City Girls Tennis Team defeated Beaver Falls 5-0 to even their record to 1-1 on the season.  Maddy McCommons (6-1, 6-0) and Rylea Heitzenrater (6-0, 6-0) collected singles victories. The Ellwood City boys golf team is off to a fast start this year, improving their season record to an impressive 4-0 after its 213-219 victory on the road Tuesday afternoon over cross town rival Riverside. Senior Milo Sesti continued his torrid pace, posting an 3-under round of 33 on Tuesday. Sesti had also fired two sub-40 rounds last week to power the Wolverines to victories over Freedom and Mohawk. Milo Sesti led the Ellwood City boys golf team to victory on Tuesday while the Ellwood City girls volleyball team and the Ellwood City co-ed cross country team were each victorious and both remain unbeaten. For the boys golf team, the 198-225 victory over Shenango at Delmar Golf Course was led by Sesti’s round of 36. The Ellwood City boys golf team continued its strong play with another victory this week, defeating Mohawk 223-241 at Delmar Golf Course.  The girls golf team fell victim to Elizabeth Forward on Tuesday and, in an even closer match, were defeated by Central Valley in a playoff on Thursday. Molly McCommons fired a team low round of 45 to lead the Lady Wolverines golf team to tri-match victory over Ambridge and Seton LaSalle at Del Mar Golf Course on Wednesday afternoon.
