Kyle Smith is Awarded Direct Appointment From USAFA

Kyle Douglas Smith the son of Doug and Joanne Smith, from Lincoln High School recently was accepted into the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA) as a direct appointment.  This is an extremely selective program where only an approximate 1,400 students out of 25,000 applicants nationwide are afforded this offer.  This education is valued at over $425,000 along with an Air Force commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force upon graduation. “This is a rather prestigious honor and reflects very favorably on both Kyle and the educational program at Lincoln High School,” said Richard J Conwell, deputy liaison officer. Elderly Ellwood City Woman Beaten and Robbed, Man Offers Reward to Help Catch Suspect

An Ellwood City man is offering a reward for information leading to an arrest in his elderly aunt’s beating earlier this year in Lawrence County. Paul Boots found his great aunt, Delida Vicarri, 84,  one early morning last February in terrible shape on the back porch of her Ellwood City home. Vicarri was assaulted and robbed. Initially though, police investigating the case and Vicarri’s family thought that she had taken a bad fall. Her injuries were serious. Boots told media his aunt suffered a broken jaw, broken eye socket, she was kicked in her ribs and her legs were bruised….


Ellwood City Yard Waste Pick Up

Yard waste pick up for Ellwood City is scheduled for the week of May 13. According to the Ellwood City Borough: YARD WASTE PICK UP: Green borough yard waste bins are also available for residents to dispose of their simple yard waste. Yard waste bins are available for purchase for $53.00 and can be purchased at the borough utility office or by calling 724-758-5576. Yard waste bins are collected on specified weeks throughout the calendar years. Dates are also provided on borough utility bills. Free Spaces to Show Creations

Daysprings on 6th is no stranger to hosting artistic events; coming up this spring is the Show and TELLwood Expo, on April 28, 2018. While the final details of the event are yet to be decided, shop owner Janet Keenan is offering fifteen free spaces to local artists and creators to display creations. Yesterday’s Special Council Meeting Recap

Thursday evening council called for a special meeting to discuss and vote on the Electric Department construction and to extend the bidding time frame for the construction of the new Public Works Building. All council members were in attendance, as was Mayor Anthony Court and Borough Solicitor Ed Leymarie. After much discussion, council passed the motion to cancel the construction and bidding for the new Electric Department Building in a 5-2 roll call vote. Council to Hold Special Meeting Tonight

Tonight at 5:15p.m. at the Ellwood City Municipal Building, council will be holding a special meeting to discuss the outcome of the public works and electric buildings. Council will be discussing the possibility of deadline extensions for bidding on the construction of the public works building and to entirely revoke the plan to create a new facility for the electric department. Several council members, including the new elects Rob Brough and Lisa Guerrera, councilwoman Marilyn Mancini, and Council President Judy Dici, have previously stated they are not in favor of rebuilding the electric department.
