Kyle Smith is Awarded Direct Appointment From USAFA

Kyle Douglas Smith the son of Doug and Joanne Smith, from Lincoln High School recently was accepted into the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA) as a direct appointment.  This is an extremely selective program where only an approximate 1,400 students out of 25,000 applicants nationwide are afforded this offer.  This education is valued at over $425,000 along with an Air Force commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force upon graduation.

“This is a rather prestigious honor and reflects very favorably on both Kyle and the educational program at Lincoln High School,” said Richard J Conwell, deputy liaison officer. Smith received  his official USAFA appointment at at LHS’s award assembly on Wednesday, May 23.

Smith, is a recent graduate of of LHS in Ellwood City, PA  and has accepted his appointment to the United States Air Force Academy.  Smith is believed to be the first graduate of LHS to receive an appointment to the USAFA in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Durring school Smith recieved many awards, scholarships & accolades: United States Air Force Academy Appointee, Eagle Scout Troop 806, LHS Class of 2018 Vice President, April 2018 Lion’s Club Student of the Month, Rotary Club of Ellwood City Genevieve Blank Memorial Scholarship for Lincoln High School, Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award for Lincoln High School, , LHS Marching Band Timothy G. Hrabosky Memorial Leadership Award, Lawrence County All Star Band, WPIAL Sportsmanship Conference Lincoln High School Representative, LHS National Honor Society Member,  Lawrence County Peer Leadership, 2017 Keystone Boys State Attendee, 2017 West Point Leadership Award.

Smith plans to attend the USAFA, Colorado Springs, Colorado to major in Mechanical Engineering.
