Bernstine Announces Satellite Office Hours in Beaver, Butler Counties

In another effort to deliver superior constituent service to residents of the 10th Legislative District at no additional cost to taxpayers, Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) announced he is now offering satellite office hours in New Brighton, Slippery Rock and Beaver Falls. “Upon taking office, I have made it a priority to dramatically reduce spending, and these office hours are an example of how efficient government should work,” said Bernstine. “I encourage residents in these areas to take advantage of this opportunity.” Bernstine will offer satellite office hours according to the following schedule: Every Monday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m….

Good Samaritan Hospice Butterfly Release

Good Samaritan Hospice is hosting a butterfly release at 2p.m. on Sunday the 27, at the Four Seasons Pavilion at Brady’s Run Park in Beaver Falls. Anyone is welcome to release a butterfly to honor and celebrate the memory of a loved one. Participants are asked to reserve a live butterfly in advance for $10 each. Anglers Warned to Not Eat Fish from Shenango River

The Pennsylvania Departments of Agriculture (Ag), Environmental Protection (DEP), and Health (DOH) along with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission announced a “DO NOT EAT” advisory for all fish species caught in the Shenango River in Mercer and Lawrence Counties due to extremely high levels of polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB). The advisory extends to all fish between the Shenango Lake Dam and the mouth of the Shenango River in New Castle, PA. DEP is currently investigating possible sources of the PCB contamination. Helling Stadium Fallen Pole Causes Severe Damage

Proceeding a storm with 60mph winds Friday evening, during a delayed football game at Helling Stadium a light pole at the stadium fell, struck two people, and damaged areas of the field and a Noga Ambulance. According to recent reports, 13-year-old Jaidyn Le’Viere, a junior cheerleading coach entering eight grade at Lincoln Junior-Senior High School, sustained injuries including lacerations in her back and a broken hip. Pollution Control Project Funded in Lawrence County

Lawrence County Conservation District received $2,000 to implement a Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring Project. “This grant allows our conservation district to address local pollution issues. We plan to educate local residents on how they can do their part to ensure there is enough clean water for future generations,” said Katie Schmidt, Watershed Specialist. Education and outreach about the project began in May of this year, and the District is continuing to look for volunteers. Training will occur in the fall and the project will be continued indefinitely afterward. Thirty-seven projects will be funded in 31 of the state’s counties. Projects…

PHOTOS: Morales Wins First Professional Boxing Match

Rosalindo Morales Jr., a 23-year-old Ellwood City native, reigned champion in his first professional boxing match on Saturday, August 12 at the Rivers Casino, against opponent Adam Young of Memphis, Tennessee. He won all four rounds unanimously against Young and said he couldn’t have done it without all the local support. “The fight was incredible and the support I had from everyone from Ellwood was truly amazing and I couldn’t have done it without them,” Morales stated. Portion of Bell Ave. Closed for Demolition

Work on the area of the buildings scheduled to be razed, 509-515 Lawrence Avenue extending back to Bell Avenue, commences today and will affect traffic on Bell Avenue. The portion of Bell Avenue, past the municipal building, is closed for the first day of work on the buildings. To start, the contracted company, Continental Demolition, will be gutting the buildings and placing the interior debris in trash containers along Bell Avenue. The trash containers are expected to be emptied on an almost-daily basis.

Bernstine Announces More Than $500,000 in Pre-K Counts Grants for Local Providers

ELLWOOD CITY – Making sure Pennsylvania children have the best possible start when entering school, two area Pre-K Counts providers who serve children in the 10th Legislative District will receive a combined $527,000 in state grants, announced Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence).  Hap Enterprises Inc. in Beaver County was awarded $442,000 and Lifesteps Inc. in Butler County was awarded $85,000. “These providers are doing wonderful things for our local children and families,” Bernstine said. “These grants will go a long way in helping them continue to foster educational development and prepare young minds for school and beyond.” Pre-K Counts programs provide…
