Wolverines junior wrestlers Derek Allen and Gabe Lilly each collected second place finishes in their respective weight classes at the District 7 Class 2A Sectionals this past Saturday at Greensburg Salem High School. After receiving an opening round bye, Allen, who is now 25-8 on the season, used victories by pinfall and decision to earn a place in the 121-pound championship match. The Ellwood City wrestling team placed 11th overall recently at the Buckeye Local Panther Classic. The team was among 22 teams participating in the tournament at Buckeye Local High School in Ohio on Saturday, January 27th. Gavin McClure and Gabe Lilly each advanced to the championship finals in their respective weight classes to pace the Wolverines team efforts. The Ellwood City Wrestling team improved their regular season record to 4-3 after its 48-18 victory over Summit Academy on Wednesday. Seven Wolverines wrestlers collected victories by pin fall on Wednesday. Wolverine freshman wrestler Gavin McClure earned a 1st place finish in his 133-pound weight class at the 2023 WPIAL AA Eastern Sectionals held at Greensburg Salem High School this past Saturday. With the performance McClure qualifies for the WPIAL Class-2A Wrestling Individual Championships to be held on February 24-25 at Chartiers Valley High School. The Ed Driscoll MAC Wrestling Tournament is one of the biggest wrestling tournaments that features some of the best talent from all around the country.
