Local Women Suffers Identity Theft On Monday October 15 at 12:00 p.m., a local women reported that she was sent a $304.60 phone bill from Verizon Wireless for two cell phone lines she had not opened. When contacted, Verizon refused to release who opened the accounts, how they did it, and the mailing address where the two phones had been sent to. No suspect names have been released. Four Cars Damage At Local Auto Dealership: On Monday September 24 at 1:07 p.m, Napleton Automotive manager Ray Reale called Ellwood City Police with a report that four of the cars in the Napelton lot had been damaged sometime between 8:00 p.m on Saturday September 23 and 12:00 p.m on Monday September 24. The cars appear to have been keyed on the front bumper or on the hood of the cars. POLICE: Two Vehicle Break-Ins Reported In North Side Area

Two reports of vehicle thefts were reported this week on Ellwood City’s North Side – each reported within 24 hours of each other.   First, on Wednesday, September 19th, Erica Miller, of Hazel Avenue, reported that an unknown actor entered a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe parked in her driveway between 10:00 p.m and 7:30 a.m. Miller reported that her ashtray was removed which contained $3.00 to $4.00 dollars in change. According to a publish report and video, a regular at a local bar who didn’t want to leave at closing time opened fire overnight Tuesday at a Weisz’s Hazel Manor in Ellwood City.  According to reports the patron refused to leave the establishment which led to a verbal confrontation with the bar owner. VIDEO: Brake Failure Causes Crash, Killing One Teen

According to published reports and a video, a one vehicle crash late Saturday night resulted in the fatality of a Union teenager after brake failure left his car helplessly careening down Bridge Street. The accident happened around 9:45 p.m. on Wampum Avenue at Bridge Street. According to reports, police said the driver had been trying to use his hand brake to stop the vehicle, but that also failed. According to reports, Ellwood City Police have charged Gary Joseph Rakoci Jr., 26, of Union Township, after he allegedly fled from police in his vehicle and on foot, around 3:00am Saturday while he allegedly was driving drunk. Ellwood Resident Busted for Heroin Distribution

On January 12, Ellwood City officers served a search warrant at 806 Pershing St., a residence suspected of selling narcotics related to several overdose investigations. Officers of the Ellwood City Police Department were aware of the resident there, 27-year-old Samantha Sutherland, and drug dealing activities. Officers conducting the search were assisted by the Lawrence County District Attorney’s Drug Task, which Ellwood City Officers are member of. Gun Found in 2nd Street Business’s Dumpster According to the police report, on August 28 Ellwood City officers were dispatched to a business on 2nd Street after receiving a call about a gun being discovered in the business’s dumpster. While taking out the trash, two employees noticed a black semi-automatic handgun discarded in the dumpster. They checked the gun to make sure it was not loaded and no magazines were found. Frank Joseph Stone, 30, of Slippery Rock is facing charges of driving under the influence, reckless driving, possession of controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving while operating privilege is suspended.
