PHOTOS: Boehm’s Grand Slam Blasts Seals The Deal For Riverside

Gunnar Boehm’s five-RBI outburst sealed the deal in Riverside’s 11-1 mercy rule victory over Ellwood City on Friday afternoon at Dan Oliastro Field. Boehm showed timely hitting on Friday, driving in five runs on only two hits including the grand slam in the pivotal, 7-run 4th inning to lead Riverside. Boehm also doubled in a run in the sixth. The undefeated Avonworth Antelopes scored in extra innings to bounce Ellwood City baseball team on Wednesday while the Avonworth softball team put up a scoring barrage in dismissing the Riverside softball team.  Despite two homeruns, the Ellwood City softball team fell to Steel Valley after a 3-run seventh inning proved a third and final lead change. Bats Blister For Panthers Softball, Busby Shines On Mound For Wolverines

Bats Blistered as Riverside Panthers Defeats Beaver Falls, 14-9 Both pitching staffs had their hands full on Tuesday in a high-scoring affair where the Riverside Lady Panthers bested Beaver Falls, 14-9. The Panthers (1-1 overall) opened up scoring with a six-run first inning and crept out to a 9-2 lead before the Tigers were able to respond. Beaver Falls scored four runs in the third inning. Panthers, Wolverines Baseball Teams On Opposite Ends of Shutouts

The Riverside varsity baseball team came out on the victors end of a shutout on Thursday while the Wolverines took a shutout defeat on Thursday. The Panthers defeated Mohawk Area 8-0 on Thursday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Riverside notched four runs in the sixth inning. Ethan Ziegler, Danny Fox, and Brian MacMurdo all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. Fox took the win for Riverside Riverside Panthers Varsity. Wolverine Baseball/Softball Teams Both Fall Behind Early, Defeated On Monday

The Ellwood City baseball squad watched their Monday afternoon game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 13-2 loss to Shenango. The Wolverines struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Shenango, giving up 13 runs. Shenango fired up the offense in the first inning, when Jake Merkel’s sac fly scored an early run for Shenango. Shenango scored eight runs in the seventh inning to stretch their lead. 2-Time Defending Champ Riverside Earns Preseason Top Ranking

Your two-time defending WPIAL Champion Riverside Panthers are slotted as preseason #1 for Class-3A, Section 2 according to an WPIAL baseball social media account.  Following the Panthers in the section ranking is Ellwood City in third place. WPIAL Baseball: Wolverines Upset Steel Valley, Panthers Pitch Another Shutout

Ellwood City Wolverines upset the number two seed, the Steel Valley Ironmen 7-2 in WPIAL quarterfinal baseball 3A action Monday afternoon at Burkett Complex in Robinson Township. The Wolverines would score 4 runs in the first inning as Steel Valley Starter Tanner Cannon struggled. He walked two and hit a batter and gave up 4 straight singles. Wolverine Softball/Baseball Teams Both Advance In WPIAL Playoffs

The defending WPIAL champion Ellwood City Wolverines softball team received an opening round scare Wednesday afternoon, but twice were able to erase multiple-run deficits to finally oust the pesky 8-seeded Burrell Bucs 6-5 in the WPIAL Class 3A softball quarterfinals Wednesday at North Allegheny. Burrell (8-8 overall) took a 2-0 lead in the fifth, backed by pitcher Brittany Dunn, who took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, but the Lady Wolverines used a walk and a couple errors in their half of the inning to knot the game at two. Wolverines Grab Lead in Seventh Inning for Victory Over Laurel

Ellwood City Wolverines took the lead late in the game in a 4-3 victory over Laurel on Friday. The game was tied at three with Ellwood City Wolverines batting in the top of the seventh when Mitch Fraser singled off of Will Shaffer, driving in the go-ahead run to finally overtake a Laurel team that took an early lead in the first inning.
