Amber McQuistion was dominant in the circle as the hurler rang up 12 strikeouts in Ellwood City’s 6-0 victory over Hopewell on Thursday. Ten Wolverines Collect Hits, Ellwood City Routs Sto-Rox

Ten Ellwood City Wolverines collected hits Monday afternoon, and 14 different players reached based as Ellwood City routed visiting Sto-Rox 23-1 at Sanders Field in Ewing Park. Jordan Keller smashed two homeruns, both in an 11-run Ellwood City fourth inning that induced the mercy rule. Ellwood City scored three runs in the first inning, four in the second inning and five in the third before erupting in the fourth inning. Aaron Lake struck out 10 batters in a complete game gem to lead the Ellwood City Wolverines past Riverside 4-0 on Tuesday at Beaver Falls High School. Lake surrendered just three hits and three walks in his performance that handed the Panthers their first loss of the season. Zack Hare was dominant on the bump Thursday afternoon and at the plate Thursday in Riverside’s 4-1 victory over West Allegheny running the Panthers early season unbeaten record to 4-0. Ellwood City Falls Short In 73rd Little League Tournament; Zito Earns Homerun Derby Crown

After collecting an opening round win on Tuesday in the 73rd Annual Little League Tournament, Ellwood City squad could not advance any further, falling twice on Saturday, first to Laurel and again to Neshannock, each by a 5-2 count that eliminated the tournament host. Neshannock earned the tournament championship with two victories over Laurel on Sunday. Ellwood City’s Joey Zito won the the 23rd Ellwood City Little League Tournament Home Run Derby at Freidhoff Field. Zito launched eight home runs to defeat 29 other contestants from the tournament. Ellwood City Rallies To Defeat Shenango In Its Little League Tournament Opening Game

Ellwood City rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to defeat Shenango, 5-2, in the 73rd Ellwood City Little League Tournament on Tuesday night. Ben Sukits smacked the key hit of the game with a three-run triple which erased a 2-1 deficit. Joey Zito and Luca Smith combined for a no-hitter with 17 strikeouts to lead Ellwood City on the mound. Both Ellwood City baseball and softball teams collected victories on Wednesday afternoon. The Wolverines baseball team defeated Laurel 10-8 at Sanders Field behind two doubles and a 4-RBI performance by catcher Jordan Keller. After Ellwood City posted three runs in the first inning, the Wolverines tacked on three more in the second inning as Keller doubled in a run and Aaron Lake smacked an RBI single. Ellwood City used a late rally, on the road, Monday to earn a 6-4 victory against unbeaten section foe Central Valley. After training 4-0 entering the top of the six inning, the Wolverines struck for four runs and added two more in the seventh to pull away to victory. Riverside Panthers coach Dan Oliastro collected his 700th career coaching victory as the Panthers defeated Shenango 7-1 on the road Monday afternoon. Darren McDade finished with four RBIs to lead the Panthers offense and batterymate Christian Lucarelli collected the win on the mound.
