Wrestlers Bring Home Four Medals In Weekend Tournament

The Ellwood City Wolverines wrestling team traveled to Hermitage on December 6 and 7 to compete in the 12th Annual Hickory Invitational Tournament which featured 24 teams competing. The team brought home four medals from the event: Ben Gallenz (Riverside High School competing on the Ellwood team through a co-operative agreement), 5th place, 106 pounds; Ryan Nazari, 8th place, 138 pounds; Austin Walley, first place, 195 pounds; and Rodney Grymes, 7th place, 220 pounds. Wrestling standout and Ellwood City student-athlete Austin Walley has signed his letter of intent to wrestle at Bucknell University.  Walley signed Wednesday morning at Lincoln High School as part of NCAA Division 1 National Signing Day. Walley finished his junior season with a 36-5 overall record and finished 4th overall in the 182-pound weight class in the PIAA Class AA Wrestling Tournament held at the Hershey in March. Two Ellwood City Wrestlers Advance to PIAA State Championships

Two Ellwood City wrestlers have advanced to Hershey PIAA State AA Wrestling Championships.  Austin Walley collected a PIAA Class AA Southwest Regional runner up finish in the 182-pound weight class while fellow Wolverine Donavin Chambers placed 4th in his 132-pound weight class. Three Ellwood Wrestlers Place At WPIAL Tournament, Advance To Regionals

Three Ellwood City wrestlers medaled at the WPIAL Individual Wrestling Tournament this past weekend and all will advance to the PIAA Class AA Southwest Regional tournament at the Ed Frey Arena, Kovalchick Convention & Athletic Complex at Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Friday and Saturday. Wrestling Team Competes In South Side Duals Tournament

The Ellwood City wrestling team was one of 14 teams that competed in the South Side Beaver Duals Tournament this past Saturday. The team had some individual success but were hampered by no contest forfeits as a team leaving the team winless in the tournament. The Wolverines fell to Cambridge Springs (58-9), Blackhawk (36-24), Lakeview (23-21), Penn Cambria (60-21), and West Greene (34-22). Wolverine wrestlers Jake Alberts and Austin Walley collected victories and championships on Saturday at the Ed Driscoll MAC tournament at Freedom High School. Walley was also voted Most Outstanding Wrestler in the 16-team tournament. Ellwood City Wrestling Team Has Early Success

This past weekend, the Ellwood City varsity boys wrestling team began their 2018-2019 season at the 22-team Hickory Invitational. The wrestling team is lead by seniors Jake Alberts and Donavin Chambers, along with their teammates Austin Walley, Donavin Chambers and Zach Polojoic. At the weekend invitational, Walley took first place in his 182-pound class, collecting a 15-3 decision over Elijah Ayers (Coudersport) while Chambers placed second in his 138-pound final, falling 7-2 in the finals.
