The Ellwood City boys basketball team returns to the WPIAL Playoffs as a 9-seed while the Riverside Panthers boys basketball team earned a 14-seed in the 2026 WPIAL Class 3A Championships. The Ellwood City boys basketball team was defeated 67-52 by Aliquippa at home Friday evening as part of its senior night. Kaleb Servick scored a game-high 19 points while Aaron Lake delivered a double-double (10 points, 15 reboounds) in defeat. The Ellwood City boys basketball team used a well rounded scoring attack to knock off rival Riverside 52-40 on Tuesday at Lincoln High School. Three Wolverines reached double digits led by junior guard Kaleb Servick who scored a game-high 17 points.  Tyler Smiley finished with 11 points (two 3-pointers, four assists, five steals) and Aaron Lake scored 10 points in the victory. The Ellwood City boys basketball team split their two games in the Mercer Christmas Tournament this week. On Monday, the Wolverines easily dispatched of Clarion-Limestone 77-36 behind a 21-point scoring performance by Kaleb Servick. Servick added seven assists and four steals in the victory. Aaron Lake posted a double-double finishing with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and added seven assists for Ellwood City. Riverside used a 17-point effort by Cole Becker to knock off rival Ellwood City 49-47 in overtime Tuesday evening. The Panthers led 27-18 at halftime before the visiting Wolverines narrowed the gap with a third quarter surge and held Riverside to only three fourth quarter points to force overtime. On Friday evening, the newest class of ECASD Hall of Fame inductees were honored with a special dinner and recognition during halftime of the boys varsity basketball game against the Freedom Bulldogs. Delaney Sturgeon scored a game-high 20 points and Kayla Jones added 19 points as Ellwood City defeated Shenango 59-23 in its second game of the Shenango Christmas Tournament. For their efforts each were named to the All-Tournament Team.
