PHOTOS: Tri-County Track & Field Championships

On Saturday, April 29th, athletes from the Riverside and Ellwood City boys and girls track and field teams competed in the 2023 Tri-County Track and Field Championships held at Shenango High School. The Ellwood City boys team placed second and the Riverside girls team placed fourth in their respective team standings.  The Riverside boys placed fifth while the Ellwood City girls placed sixth. Ellwood City After Prom A Success!

The 2023 Lincoln High School Prom and Ellwood City Area After Prom was a big success! This year’s after prom was held the evening of Friday, May 5, 2023 at the Lincoln Jr. Sr High Big Gym. The after prom included: a casino game night filled with prizes and fun, a hypnotist show, photo booth, and lots of yummy food. Lincoln High School Announces 2023 Prom Court

The 2023 Lincoln High School Prom Court has been announced! On Friday, the Ellwood City “A Night With The Stars” Prom will be held at the New Englander in New Castle, Pennsylvania. Prior to arriving at the New Englander, students will participate in the annual LHS Promenade held at the Leslie Sabo Memorial Auditorium. During the ceremony Senior members of the Prom court will be recognized and the 2023 King and Queen will be crowned later that evening. Ellwood City sophomore Will Nardone pitched six scoreless innings Wednesday afternoon as the Wolverines easily dismantled the visiting Central Valley Warriors 10-0 at Sanders Field. Nardone allowed only three singles on the afternoon. He stuck out five batters while issuing only three walks. Offensively, senior Chase Wilson reached base four times (3-3, 2 RBIs, 1 BB) and scored three runs for the Wolverines. Joining Wilson with multiple hits were Jordan Keller (2-4, 2 runs) and Ryan Widmaier (2-2, 2 runs, 1 BB). For two rival teams that haven’t met in five years, Thursday’s 2-1 extra innings affair at Riverside proved to be well worth the wait. The Lady Panthers rallied late to tie things up in the seventh and won it in the eighth on a clutch two out, two strike single by Aliya Ottaviani. It was a classic pitcher’s duel as Samantha Rosenberger whiffed 14 for the winners while Amber Mcquistion and Sara Schwarz combined for 13 punch outs for the Lady Wolverines. Beaver County Local Historians Gathering Oral Histories Related to East Palestine Train Derailment

Darlington – Located in northwestern Beaver County not far from East Palestine, Ohio–site of the now infamous Norfolk Southern train derailment on February 3, 2023–the Little Beaver Historical Society is hosting a public event called “Stories for History” to capture, preserve and share first-hand accounts and memories of the train derailment and its aftermath, including the so-called “controlled burn off” of several chemical tank cars. The Annual Ellwood City Easter Egg Hunt returned to the grounds of Ewing Park on Saturday, this year under new guidance. The Ellwood City Area Chamber of Commerce hosted the 2023 Easter Egg Hunt event after the prior committee retired and turned the event over to the new guidance. The free community event was most hippity-hoppity and featured pony rides, petting zoo, face painting, and of course – egg hunting!  The event handed out over 15,000 eggs! The Ellwood City boys track and field team swept its season opening meet this week, earning victories over Riverside and Union. The girls track team split their meet, with a victory over Union, but were bested by rival Riverside. “It’s a great start to the season and having the win against the cross-town rivals who have long been known for success on the track simply adds to the celebration,” said head coach Nate Brown.
