The Ellwood City Little League celebrated its 75th Anniversary on Tuesday night. In 1950, Ellwood City became the fifth league to be chartered in Western Pennsylvania and the first in Lawrence, Beaver, Butler and Mercer Counties. Several speakers made remarks before the Lions and Moose, two teams from the inaugural Little League season, the 75th Anniversary Game. Alexandria Smith Crowned 2025 Little Miss Firecracker Winner

The Folino Stage in Ewing Park glittered with patriotic sparkle & spunk on Friday as 10 local ladies competed for the 8th Annual Little Miss Firecracker Crown. Alexandria Smith was crowned the 2025 winner. Ella Fauzey was 1st runner-up and Cali Kline earned the Patriotic Spirit Award. The event was led by returning emcee Rochelle Spagnolo (local owner of Konsignment Konnections store) and last years Little Miss Firecracker title holder, Bristol Borselli (2024 winner). Riverside High School held its 2025 commencement cermonies outdoors after weather postponed the originally scheduled date. PHOTOS: Panthers Cruise In PIAA Opening Round Victory

The WPIAL District 7 Champion Riverside Panthers cruised to a 9-0 opening round victory over Huntingdon in the PIAA 3A playoffs Monday afternoon on its home turf. Senior Christian Lucarelli tossed a 3-hit complete game for the Panthers. Lucarelli struck out seven batters and allowed only two walks. The Riverside offense exploded for five runs in the third inning to quickly put the game at bay. John Bowser and Hunter Garvin each picked up RBI singles in the inning while Lucarelli drew a bases loaded walk and a balk and Jackson Barber ground out also envoked runs for the Panthers….

Monday was a day to honor those who gave their lives in service to the country. Ellwood City hosted its annual Memorial Day Parade under sunkissed skies Monday morning. Many crowded the streets to enjoy the parade. A tribute to fallen heroes followed the parade at Legion Park along with a community picnic at Circle Playground Heritage Park.  


PHOTOS: Ellwood City Elementary Students Host Pizza Day

120 Sixth-grade students participated in a pizza project that culminated last week as they ventured to local pizzerias Vinny’s Restaurant and Johnny’s Pizza Shop. Elementary Computer Teacher Matt Skoczylas and School Counselor Christina Mendillo organized the project. Skoczylas had completed a pizza project unit with Ellwood City 6th graders before but, according to Mendillo, wanted to expand the project and turn it into an actual simulation. PHOTOS: Beaver River Bridge Replacement Project Is More Than Halfway Complete

Significant progress has been made along the Pennsylvania Turnpike (PA Turnpike) as the Beaver River Bridge Replacement Project is more than halfway completed. The $269 million project, which began in December 2022, constructs two new bridges to the north of the current bridge and expands the roadway from two to three lanes in each direction, adding widened shoulders and median. Pier tables are currently under construction on the eastbound bridge and have been completed on the westbound side. Lincoln High School Prom 2025: “What Happens At Prom Stays At Prom”

On Friday, May 2, 2025, Ellwood City Lincoln High School will host its annual prom, themed “What Happens at Prom Stays at Prom,” at the Pittsburgh Event Center, located at Steamfitters Local 449 in Zelienople, Pennsylvania. Before heading to the venue, students will take part in the traditional LHS Promenade at the Leslie Sabo Memorial Auditorium.
