The Lady Panthers rallied late to tie things up in the seventh and won it in the eighth on a clutch two out, two strike single by Aliya Ottaviani. Beaver County Local Historians Gathering Oral Histories Related to East Palestine Train Derailment

Darlington – Located in northwestern Beaver County not far from East Palestine, Ohio–site of the now infamous Norfolk Southern train derailment on February 3, 2023–the Little Beaver Historical Society is hosting a public event called “Stories for History” to capture, preserve and share first-hand accounts and memories of the train derailment and its aftermath, including the so-called “controlled burn off” of several chemical tank cars. The Annual Ellwood City Easter Egg Hunt returned to the grounds of Ewing Park on Saturday, this year under new guidance. The Ellwood City Area Chamber of Commerce hosted the 2023 Easter Egg Hunt event after the prior committee retired and turned the event over to the new guidance. The free community event was most hippity-hoppity and featured pony rides, petting zoo, face painting, and of course – egg hunting!  The event handed out over 15,000 eggs! The Ellwood City boys track and field team swept its season opening meet this week, earning victories over Riverside and Union. The girls track team split their meet, with a victory over Union, but were bested by rival Riverside. “It’s a great start to the season and having the win against the cross-town rivals who have long been known for success on the track simply adds to the celebration,” said head coach Nate Brown. The Ellwood City girls basketball team fell 56-26 Thursday night to the section leading Laurel Spartans as part of their Senior night festivities. Liz Mihalko, Brooke Roth, and Aliya Garroway were the three Ellwood City girls basketball seniors recognized in advance of the game. Claire Noble led the Wolverines on the court Thursday with a team-high 11 points while seniors Roth (6 points) and Mihalko (2 points) each collected points in their final home game. The Ellwood City girls basketball team raced out to an early advantage Thursday night en route to its 54-31 Riv-Ell victory over the visiting Riverside Panthers. The Wolverines used a 20 point first quarter to jump out to an early advantage they never relinquished on their home court.
