VIDEO: Man Opens Fire Inside Local Bar When Told To Leave

According to a publish report and video, a regular at a local bar who didn’t want to leave at closing time opened fire overnight Tuesday at a Weisz’s Hazel Manor in Ellwood City.  According to reports the patron refused to leave the establishment which led to a verbal confrontation with the bar owner. With five people inside, including the owner, Michael Allen Henry, Jr., 26, of 185 Kindale Street pulled a 9mm gun out and put it on the bar. PHOTOS: Bald Eagle Spotted In Ewing Park

Thursday evening, along the banks of the Connoquenessing Creek in Ewing Park, a bald eagle was spotted just off the Nature Trail walkway.  Walkers who enter the Nature Trail north entrance (nearest to Helling Stadium) may be able to catch a glance of this phenomenal bird. Bald eagles are most readily identified by their white heads and tails but usually don’t take on that appearance until they are fully mature, around 5 years of age, which is when they nest.  Bald eagles can weigh up to 14 pounds and have 7-foot wingspans. VIDEO: Back Home With Stephen Johns

The 26-year-old Dallas Star and Wampum native Stephen Johns takes his viewers on a tour of his hometown in this published video made available on NHL.com presented by Kia. The 6’4″ 221-pound defenseman finished with 15 points and a plus-10 rating in 75 games last season for the Dallas Stars. Johns played four seasons at Notre Dame, scoring 15 goals and 57 points in 164 games, and led the team to the 2013 Central Collegiate Hockey Association Tournament title. Johns and the Stars play the Pittsburgh Penguins just once this regular season –– Wednesday, November 21st at PPG Paints Arena.

Over 37 million people in 16,124 communities celebrate America’s National Night Out against crime. National Night Out,  began in 1984 in an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. National Night Outs are held on the first Tuesday of August. Franklin Township held their 6th Annual Community Day National Night Out Event on, August 7. Ellwood City Throw Back Thursday: July 1981 Storm

Hello Everyone, last Friday we posted some photographs from a storm in the summer of July 1981. One of our viewers Hazel Beltz Ford, reached out to us and she was able to provide us with some more information and some more photographs of the storm. She let us know that the storm in the summer of ’81 was strong like a tornado or micro burst, it knocked down many trees in the area and left roads closed for days. PHOTOS: Updates on Bridge Construction Around Ellwood City

Koppel Bridge Updates According to PennDOT:  The $27.58 million Route 351 Koppel Bridge replacement project continues in 2018 with steel erection, and pier and retaining wall construction to the bridge connecting Koppel Borough to North Sewickley Township over Beaver River. Traffic will be maintained on the existing bridge during the construction of the new bridge. An approximate three-month closure with detour will occur in the summer of 2019. Additional work includes signage, pavement markings, drainage, and guiderail installation. PHOTOS: 52nd Annual Bazaar

The 52nd Annual Holy Redeemer Bazaar took place over the weekend, beginning last Wednesday and stretching to Sunday August 4th on the grounds of the Holy Redeemer Parish. The food, the fun and the fireworks make the Bazaar a favorite. This year the bazaar featured a special area for kids ages two to seven called “You’re Incredible Zone,” inspired by Disney’s Pixar movie “The Incredibles.” Nightly entertainment featured performances by a barbershop quartet, a polka group, a contemporary Christian group and others. There were performances by three Ellwood City dance companies Dance Expressions; Studio P; and Diamond Dance Academy.

PHOTO GALLERY: The Carpenter’s Project Work Week

The Carpenter’s Project is a group of volunteers that are spreading out around the community this week to paint, remove brush and fix lose boards etc. at peoples homes. There are 19 crews working together to help the homeowners out. Below we have photos taken from the Line Ave. and Massachusetts St. locations. The crew on Line Ave is scraping and repainting the homeowners porch and nailing down loose boards. The Crew on Massachusetts St. is clearing out overgrown shrubby for the homeowner.
