PHOTOS: Ellwood City Festival

The Ellwood City Festival took place all weekend, there were competitions including the Little Miss Firecracker pageant and Ledger 10K race. Dia Rose Greco, daughter of Robert and Jennier Greco, was named the 2018 Little Miss Firecracker. She was dressed as a USO hostess and gave a salute to the crowd. Doug Petrik was the overall winner of the Ledger 10K race for the fourth consecutive year. His finish time was 35:35.6. Performances by local jazz, country and rock bands kept the music flowing all three days. The festival, as always, finished the weekend with fireworks provided by Zambelli International. Below…


VIDEO: Ellwood City Arts, Crafts, Entertainment and Food Festival

Ellwood City’s 37th Annual Arts, Crafts, Entertainment and Food Festival started today at 11 a.m. The festival will run throughout the weekend ending on July 1 at 10 p.m. We had the chance to go down to the festival and ask some of the vendors questions about why they come to the EC Festival and what they have. OLD PHOTO FRIDAY: Blood Donor Honor Roll

Photo taken on February 6, 1976; Members of the Rexnord Union Local 2263 donated the two blood donor honor rolls that were hanging in the clock office of Rexnord to Mrs. Frances Fox, secretary of the Ellwood City Branch, Lawrence County Chapter of the American Red Cross in her office in the municipal building. PHOTOS: Lincoln High School ‘Class of 2018’ Graduation

Ellwood City Lincoln High School enjoyed its graduation ceremony Thursday evening at Leslie Sabo Memorial Auditorium. A total of 120 students received diplomas at the commencement. Eight students graduated with high honors, including Michael J. Ace, Neisa M. Carsele, Katelyn V. Cole, Zoe M. Kalantzis, Dia A Neupauer, Kyle D. Smith, Dominick J. Spadafore, and Jaylin R. Tuttle. PHOTOS: Annual Memorial Day Parade

Ninety-degree heat welcomed the hundreds of onlookers spread across town Monday morning during the annual Ellwood City Memorial Day Parade.  Youth organizations, marching bands, city and state officials, fire trucks, police cruisers, and other community members participated and marched in the parade honoring the men and women that died in military service for the United States of America. The parade took place across Ellwood City to Veterans Memorial Park where the closing ceremonies were held.  Members of the Ellwood City Civic Chorale performed at the conclusion of the ceremony.

PHOTOS: Beaver Lawrence Railway Historical Society Train Day Festival

Beaver Lawrence Railway Historical Society is held their semi-annual Train Day Festival at West Pittsburgh Train Station Saturday, May 19. The event kicked off with a touch a truck event and there were other attractions like classic cars, a model railroad, tours of the restored caboose and the historic train station. There was local bakery serving mouth watering sweet rolls, and a local restaurant set up serving hot sandwiches, a southern BBQ master grilling and a Greek and Middle Eastern truck served though dinner. OLD PHOTO FRIDAY: Connoquenessing Creek Overflowing 1970’s

This week’s Old Photo Friday, courtesy of the Ellwood City Historical Society is a photo of Ellwood City’s Mckim Way flooded when the Connoquenessing Creek overflowed. Its banks rose to a three-foot level in some of the cottages, while outside water was waist high in some places. Homes and cottages were evacuated when water rose at a rapid pace and after it crested. Do you remember the overflow of the Connoquenessing Creek? Did you or your family have to evacuate? An Ellwood City tradition continued Friday, May 4 at Sons of Italy Hall. For the 71st consecutive year Lincoln High School juniors, seniors and their guests enjoyed the after prom party provided by the Ellwood City After Prom Committee. The prom king and queen of the night were, King Jarrett Lubich and Queen Grace Blake. DJ Ken Raisor of Sabre David Entertainment provided the music for dancing. Other entertainment included Caricature Artist Richard DiGia, a photo booth provided by Clark’s Studio, the close-up magic of Dr. Bradley Brown and Hypnotist, Robert Mullins. PHOTOS: Ellwood Softball Senior Night Cut Short By Rain

Thursday evening’s Ellwood City softball contest was called due to rain in the top of the second inning with the Wolverines leading 1-0 over Beaver Falls.  Senior Breonna Streit led off with a base hit and scored on an RBI single by Maria Ioanilli to give the Wolverines the early lead. Madi Krugh struck out two Tigers in her 1 1/3 innings before the rain forced the delay and cancellation. The Lady Wolverines (5-4 overall) are next scheduled for road contest next week, first at Hopewell on Wednesday, May 9th, and later traveling to New Castle on Thursday, May 10th. …
