PHOTOS: 6th Grade Olympics

Ellwood City 6th grade students participated in their annual 6th grade Olympics this past Thursday May 20th at Helling Stadium in Ewing Park. The day started off with a parade of classes in the morning before the events began. The team names represented each of the students homerooms. The teams were as follows:  Agostinelli All Stars; Bing’s Bandits; Mrs.Cortez’s Charging Cheetahs; Morella’s Wolverines; Ott’s Bots ; The Rozanski Royals Morella’s Wolverines won the Tug Of War Championship.

For the sixth consecutive season, the Wolverine softball team won a first round playoff game. Last week, the Wolverines traveled to South Park and cruised to a 12-3 victory, but on Wednesday evening, the Eagles turned the tables and cruised to a 9-2 win on Ellwood City Senior Night. Ellwood City seniors Maria Ioanilli and Makinley Magill were recognized prior to the game as part of the Senior Night festivities. The Ellwood City Wolverines defeated Quaker Valley 5-1 on Saturday. Prior to the contest, the Ellwood City seniors were recognized with their parents as part of the Senior Day game. After a relatively quiet first five innings, Ellwood City scored four runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach. The offensive onslaught by the Wolverines was led by James Meehan (2-3, 2 runs, 1 2B, 1 RBI), Alexander Roth, Noah Magill, and RJ Murray, who each had RBIs in the pivotal inning. PHOTOS: Ellwood City Sweeps Riverside In Doubleheader

The Ellwood City Wolverines girls and boys basketball teams each defeated the Panthers and swept the rivalry doubleheader Tuesday night at Riverside High School. The girls ran away with a 42-12 victory in the first game while the boys used a strong second half to collect its 80-53 victory in the second game of the evening. For the girls, the cousin duo of Junior Kyla Servick and Freshman Claire Noble combined for 30 points. Noble earned her first double-double of her high school career,  scoring 17 points, including two 3-pointers, and pulling down 11 rebounds. Servick poured in 13 points…


Lady Wolverines Surge In Second Quarter, Race Past Riverside

The Ellwood City Lady Wolverines used a 21-1 second quarter surge to race past the visiting Riverside Panthers 45-11 Monday Night at Lincoln High School. After exchanging scores early in the first quarter, Ellwood City posted their impressive run in the second quarter taking an 8-6 advantage to a comfortable 29-7 halftime lead.  Great defense translated to multiple fast break points and layups for the Lady Wolverines. After pacing most of the game and leading 37-33 heading into the fourth quarter, Ellwood City could not manage a field goal and only two points – Steve Antuono free throws – in the final frame, letting the lead, and game, slip away in falling 47-39 to Neshannock. Ellwood City opened up their long-awaited regular season play Friday night and held leads after the first three quarters over the visiting Lancers, including a 25-19 halftime edge. Ellwood City Homecoming Queen & King Announced

Congratulations are in order for the 2020 Ellwood City Homecoming Queen and King! The winners were announced Friday night during the Ellwood City varsity football game at Helling Stadium that pitted the Wolverines against Beaver Falls.  Ellwood City was defeated 54-26 in the football contest. The game was streamed on the EC Wolverines YouTube.com webpage while the ceremony and crowning was live streamed on the Ellwood City Cheerleaders Facebook Page. A Unity Rally was held in the Ellwood City Community Plaza on Lawrence Avenue in downtown Ellwood City on Sunday afternoon. The non-partisan and public demonstration was planned to raise awareness of and show support for the Black Lives Matter and current Civil Rights Movement sweeping across the nation. Several community leaders spoke to give continued voice to the movement. “I am proud to be part of this event and to continue helping push the message and mission of equality for all,” said Kolbe Cole, Candidate for State Representative in District 10, this week in an interview.
