PHOTOS: Lady Panthers Pull Away In Rivalry Victory Over Wolverines

Entering Monday Night’s rivalry 2.0 game for both Riverside and Ellwood City, the records may have led some to believe Riverside would have an easy time with the Lady Wolverines.  But as with any rivalry game, you can throw the records out as Ellwood City (3-7 overall) paced the Panthers (8-2 overall) for the first three frames of action until Riverside used a strong 4th quarter performance at the free throw line to pull away to a 46-37 section victory. Five Wolverine wrestlers were victorious in their final matches at the Midwestern Athletic Conference Tournament, which was held January 6-7 at Hopewell High School. In championship matches, at the 132 pound weight class – Ellwood City’s Tyler Alberts collected a major decision and victory over Jake Pail, Freedom, 8-0. In third-place consolation matches, at 120-pound weight class – Tyler Baird was victorious by decision over Nick Reconnu, Montour, 5-1.  In the 145 weight class – Austin Walley, Ellwood City used a major decision to beat Austin Dohl, Quaker Valley, 17-3. PHOTOS: Balanced Panthers Attack Leads To Rivalry Victory

The Riverside Panthers used a balance scoring attack Friday night in their 66-51 rivalry victory over Ellwood City. Riverside was led by three players in double digits including Justin Baust who finished with a game-high 15 points.  Baust was joined in double figures by Gunnar Boehm (14 points) and Jesse Fornataro (11 points). Speicher Connects On Eight 3-pointers, Panthers Shoot Down Summit

Dylan Speicher connected on a school record 8 3-pointers Wednesday night to propel the Panthers to a 76-61 victory over Summit Academy. Speicher finished with 32 points on 12 made field goals on the evening and broke a school shooting record in the process.  The 5’10” senior guard received recognition on social media by former Panther Mike Shoaf who was one of three former Panthers who made seven 3-pointers in a game. @DylanSpeicher congrats – I set that record 18 yrs ago. Ellwood City Wrestling: Hampton Dual

Highlights Impressive showing by our new comers from Jr. High Austin Walley and Jake Alberts who had a very strong showing  in their first varsity matches. Austin went 4-1 for the day and Jake went 5-0 for the day. After taking a year off,  HWT Vincent Decaria did not disappoint with a record of 4-1 for the day.  Tyler Alberts also went 5-0 for the day and joined the milestone 100 wins club. Lincoln High Wrestler Signs Letter of Intent

Tyler Alberts, a senior at Lincoln High School and team captain of their wrestling team, has been wrestling for a total of 12 years and plans on wrestling for at least the next four after he signed his letter of intent today to attend Wheeling Jesuit University. The university offered Alberts a scholarship for wrestling and education. Alberts said that after visiting six separate universities, he knew Jesuit was the right one. “I really like the coach, the team, and over all the entire campus. The winter sports athletes at Ellwood and Riverside are looking forward to their upcoming season and have undoubtedly endured aggressive practices in hopes that the hard work will pay off in the end. “We’ve been conditioning, working hard, and getting comfortable doing what we do in order to brace ourselves for the competition,” Jordan Recce, a senior basketball player at Ellwood stated. Adult Season Tickets: Ellwood City Varsity Basketball

Adult Season Tickets, for Ellwood City Boys Varsity Basketball, will be on sale in the High School office. The cost is $20, and the tickets are good for all regular season home games (excludes Tip-Off Classic 12/9-12/10). Adult Season Tickets for Girls Varsity Basketball will be available at the gate of each home game, and the cost is also $20. All tickets at the door will be $5 for adults, $2 for students, and $1 for senior citizens.
