Panthers, Lady Wolverines Both Advance in PIAA Opening Rounds

Skyla Greco didn’t allow a single run as Wolverines defeated Ligonier Valley 6-0 on Tuesday in its PIAA Opening Round contest. Greco struck out seven batters and allowed just four hits. The WPIAL champs broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth with three runs. Breonna Streit knocked in a run, and Megan Siegfried drove in a pair. EC Adult Basketball: Season 3 In The Books

Season 3 of the Ellwood City Basketball League is officially in the books. What a wild scene it was at the Family Center throughout the playoffs, and wild has never looked so good! Back-to-back: Lady Wolverines Dominant in WPIAL Repeat

Elwood City’s softball team has been a dominant force over WPIAL opponents in recent years, as it carried a carried a 37-game winning streak against such foes into Wednesday’s Class 3A championship game. That dominance continued as the Wolverines scored a convincing 10-0 victory in five innings against Deer Lakes at California University’s Lilley Field. Back-to-back: Riverside defends WPIAL throne, collects 3A Championship

Last year, it took nine innings and only one run to give the Riverside Panthers the Class AA crown with a 1-0 win over Neshannock. In 2017, it was a new class and opponent but the end result was still the same as the Panthers cruised to a 7-1 victory over the Mount Pleasant Vikings at Wild Things Park to take the 3A baseball trophy back to North Sewickley Township. The Wolverines remain undefeated on the season and now have run their winning streak to 38 against WPIAL teams. Ellwood City will make a second straight trip to the title game and also has qualified for the state playoffs after its 3-1 victory over #4 Southmoreland (11-7 overall) Tuesday afternoon. Ellwood City Wolverines upset the number two seed, the Steel Valley Ironmen 7-2 in WPIAL quarterfinal baseball 3A action Monday afternoon at Burkett Complex in Robinson Township.
