SPORTS: Ellwood City Cross Country and Golf Teams Continue Winning Streaks

The Ellwood City Wolverines Co-Ed Cross Country Team and Co-Ed Golf teams each collected victories last week to continue their respective winning streaks. Golf has now won four straight matches after losing four of their previous five matches. The Wolverines last week defeated the Mohawk Warriors in by far the biggest upset on the year by Ellwood City with a score of 214-218. The victory came eight days after the Wolverines were victorious against the Union Scotties 221-232 to break the losing ways. BC3 Volleyball Upholds Highest Ranking In Program History

Lincoln High School graduate Breanna Reisinger is helping lead a Butler County Community College volleyball team that enters the second half of its 2022 regular season this week upholding the highest national ranking the program has had in its history. BC3, with a 7-2 record, was ranked No. 2 among 97 programs in a National Junior College Athletic Association Division III poll released Monday. The Pioneers were also ranked No. 2 in a Sept. 6 poll. SPORTS: The Streak Is Over!; RHS Tennis Defeats Wolverines; EC Volleyball Remains Unbeaten

The longest losing streak (27 games) in the WPIAL is officially over as the Wolverines cruised to their first victory in 4 years, defeating the Carlynton Cougars 46-6 on Friday night. The Cougars started the night off with electing to receive the ball after winning the coin toss, showing that they wanted to start on offense early. This back fired quickly as a fumble recovery by #20 Jackson Kerr at the 10:35 mark set up the Wolverines with great field position at the Cougars 35 yard line. The Ellwood City Lady Wolverines finished Week One of volleyball on a high note, earning a three-set sweep of the rival Riverside Panthers on Saturday afternoon. The victory came after defeating the South Side Rams 3-2 on Thursday. SPORTS: Wolverines Volleyball Opens Season With Victory, EC Tennis Defeated

Ellwood City Girls Volleyball has officially started for the Lady Wolverines as they defeated the Ambridge Bridgers in three straight sets to pick up the early season victory. The Wolverines came right out of the gate, having a double-digit lead in the first set, ultimately winning 25-19. Ellwood City did one better yet in the second set, winning 25-18 to go up two sets to none. Wolverines Fall Short In Season Opening Loss At Brentwood

Week Zero is officially in the books for the WPIAL as over 100 teams were in uniform during the Friday/Saturday action. The Wolverines made a trip down to Brentwood High School to take on the Spartans to begin the 2022 football campaign. Both teams in recent years have had a tough time on the gridiron, but the game did not disappoint. All-American Reisinger Returns For Nationally Ranked BC3 Volleyball Squad

Ellwood City graduate Breanna Reisinger headlines a group of decorates starters returning to the The Butler County Community College volleyball squad this fall. Two All-Americans, a middle hitter selected to a national championship all-tournament team, and three other starters who as first-year players in 2021 led the Pioneers to a 12th consecutive winning season and a sixth-place national finish. Outside hitter Reisinger and setter Morgan Jack in December became the first teammates in program history to be named National Junior College Athletic Association All-Americans following the same season. FORE! Ellwood City Co-Ed Golf Off To Fast Start

Ellwood City Co-Ed Golf Team is enjoying some early season success, collecting victories in its first two matches of the season. The Wolverines opened up the season with a home victory over Union on Friday (223-259) and collected another victory at home on Tuesday, defeating New Castle (214-256).
