Parent Meeting for Ellwood Winter Sports

Attention all parents of winter sports athletes: There will be a mandatory parent meeting on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 in the Lincoln High School Cafeteria at 7:30 PM. If your child plans to participate in any winter sport, a parent or guardian must be present.


Ellwood City’s Billy Lott Headed for States

Billy Lott will take his second trip to the PIAA cross country state championships at Hershey Park. The Ellwood City junior finished 17th overall in the WPIAL championship on Thursday with a time of 17:50. Lott, who also qualified for states his sophomore year, missed part of the season, including the Tri-County Invitation, due to a back injury and subsequently had less time to prepare for the WPIALs. Beaver Thrashes Wolverines in Last Season Game

The Ellwood City Wolverines lost their opportunity to close the regular season with a winning record. The Beaver Bobcats thrashed the Wolverines 48-17 in Friday’s away game. Senior Nick Ioanilli had two runs in the second and third quarters and senior Justin Baney kicked a 23 yard field goal in the first quarter. The Wolverines were unable to score sufficiently to outweigh the Bobcat’s offense. Beaver’s Darius Wise ran for four touchdowns totaling over 200 yards, including a 93 yard run in the second quarter. Despite a shaky start to the season, the Ellwood City Wolverines are on the path to a winning season. The Wolverines collected their fourth win on Senior Night against Laurel with a final score of 50-13. Twelve seniors: Carlo Agostinelli, Tyler Ballard, Justin Baney, DJ Barrett, Devin Cortez, James Cunningham, David Deloia, Adam Foreman, Logan Gibbons, Nick Ioanilli, Keanu Jefferson, and River Kelly, were honored at halftime. Ellwood Senior Night Tickets On Sale

Students Create First Inter-school Powder Puff Game

The first ever inter-school Powder Puff game for Lincoln High school will be against Mohawk this Saturday, October 24. Ellwood has enjoyed a long tradition of intramural powder puff games but now the Lincoln senior girls will be pitting their athletic prowess against the Mohawk senior class. The game is the brainchild of seniors Sydney Schurtz and Alley McKelvey, who informed Athletic Director Darin Morella. Morella in turn contacted several surrounding schools. Riverside Parents Inquire about Co-Op Wrestling with Ellwood City

Several parents attended the Riverside School Board agenda setting meeting on Monday, Oct. 12 to inquire about a potential Riverside wrestling program. Visitor Rani Schweiger asked the Board if there was interest in either establishing a Riverside wrestling team or forming a Co-Op with Ellwood City. Superintendent Dr. David Arney said that because of how imminent winter sports season is, it is more practical to look into having Riverside athletes wrestle as independents for the 2015-16 school year. Local Effects of PIAA Transition to 6A Classification Uncertain

The nature of high school sports in Pennsylvania will change in the 2016-17 school year. At a meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 6 the PIAA board voted 26-4 to increase the number of football classifications from four to six. Traditionally, high schools sports have been divided into two to four size rankings (A, AA, AAA, AAAA) based on the student population of freshmen through juniors. Male and female populations are counted separately.
