In a notice made available by the Borough of Ellwood City, a vacancy exists on Ellwood City Civil Service Commission. Any Borough resident interested in serving on the Commission is asked to submit a letter of interest to the Borough Secretary, 525 Lawrence Avenue, Ellwood City, PA 16117. Franklin Township To Host 10th Annual National Night Out Event

Come on out and mingle with fellow community members! Franklin Township will be holding their 10th Annual National Night Out Event on Tuesday, August 1st, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Franklin Plaza in Ellwood City. There will be free activities for children, fire safety, CPR training, prize giveaways, and food vendors. The annual event will host approximately 40 vendors for the event.  The event is sponsored by Plassmeyer Towing. Borough Teaming Up with Kitchen Cabinet to Provide Welcome Signs

Ellwood City Borough Council approved a quote from locally owned Signs by Sam for the purchase of two Ellwood City Welcome Signs that will be placed at “entrances” to the city. The signs will cost a total of $7,000. Local nonprofit organization The Kitchen Cabinet will provide $3,500 of the amount in cooperation with the borough that will provide the other $3,500 from the L&N fund. ECASD Approves Plan to Construct New Softball Field, Renovate Baseball Field

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors unanimously approved a plan to commit to improving district softball and baseball facilities. The plan, provided by HHSDR in an athletic facility study, includes a newly constructed softball field on the Ewing Park School property and renovations to the existing baseball field as recommended by the ECASD Board Athletic Committee. The $3,329,000 project will be funded via a local athletic capital campaign, led by local resident Bill Nardone. LHS Class of 1959 Holds Mini Reunion

With 32 classmates in attendance, the Ellwood City Lincoln High School Class of 1959 held a mini reunion on June 30th at Mike’s Main Street, on Lawrence Avenue. Special guests included Bob Morrow, Mayor Anthony Court, Coach Jeff “Gino” Fotia, and Attorneys Larry and Marisa Kelly. Classmate Keith Morrison traveled the farthest to attend, logging 1,132 miles from Florida. Eight attendees came from out of state. Ellwood City Cheerleaders Hosting Color Run On August 12th

The Ellwood City Cheerleaders will be hosting its 5k Color Run in August. The event is its annual 5k the cheerleaders host each year with the exception of 2020 because of COVID-19. The run is fun for all ages and athletic abilities. The run consists of participants going through the nature trail and circling around Ewing Park. “Some people walk the 5k and some are more serious and want to run,” says LHS Cheer Booster Tresurer, Nicole DiCerbo. Mayor Anthony J. Court presented the 5th 2023 Beautification Award to “Roach” and Fran Boariu on Line Avenue. Mayor Court stated “ Looks great! A lot of work and it shows.
