Criminal Complaints

DUI’s According to the criminal complaint filed on October 11, Brian Adam Kent, 24, of Ellwood City, is facing charges of driving under the influence and DUI: highest rate of alcohol (BAC .16+) after he was stopped October 4 for erratic driving through Ellwood. The responding officer noticed a strong smell of alcohol emitting from the vehicle and the defendant stated he was drinking that night. Kent failed all the sobriety tests and was taken to the hospital for a blood test which came back positive at .188% blood alcohol level. According to the criminal complaint filed on October 11,…

Under the Sea Extravaganza

The cast of the upcoming Lincoln High School’s The Little Mermaid will be presenting an Under the Sea Extravaganza on 10/22/16 from 2-5p.m. at the high school cafeteria. The Under the Sea Extravaganza is designed specifically to raise money for the production of The Little Mermaid musical. A musical is produced annually in the fall by the music dept staff at Lincoln High School -the school district does not provide funds for the musical production so all the fundraising is all done by the cast. Derry has been one of the bigger surprises in WPIALs, coming into last night’s game 7-0 (5-0) playing an extra game during week 0.  Derry has had several historic teams and is rich in tradition, but only has gone to the playoffs once since 2002.  That will change this year. Wurtemburg-Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department Fire Prevention Week

The Wurtemburg-Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department hosted their annual Fire Prevention Week open house on Wednesday, October 12th, from 6-8PM. Those in attendance had the opportunity to learn and practice “stop, drop, and roll,”  how to use a fire extinguisher, see live fire demonstrations, and tour the fire safety trailer, where they learned fire prevention tips and how to use a bedroom window for a fire escape route. Ellwood City’s School Board Meeting Brief

Yesterday night Ellwood City Area School District held their monthly school board meeting; many topics were discussed regarding school matters. The meeting had more visitors than normal and a large majority of them were district school bus drivers who wanted to attend the school board meeting in regards to a recent personnel incident involving a school bus driver who was fired- which they believe was unfair. Not much information about the incident is being released currently, but the school board informed the visitors they do not handle the hiring and firing of bus drivers since it’s handled privately by the…

A Letter From the Borough: Political Signs on Borough Property

No candidate for political office, whether local, county, state or federal, shall post any political signs on Borough property without registering at the Municipal Building, 525 Lawrence Avenue, Ellwood City PA 16117. The registration procedure involves a $50 deposit, which will be returned if the following regulations are complied with: no sign shall be placed prior to four weeks before the date of election and must be removed within five days after the election. Gibbons Hosts Agriculture Secretary and Farmers at Local Event

BEAVER COUNTY, Oct. 13 – State Rep. Jaret Gibbons, D-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence, welcomed Pennsylvania Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding and 30 local farmers at a local restaurant to talk about agriculture education, food trade and the future of state farmers. Gibbons said Redding addressed the audience and took questions relating to the agriculture workforce.
