Mayor Court Presents Local Couple with Commendation

Mayor Court presented to Mary and Tim Post, owners and operators of T & M Hardware, a commendation for their 25 years in the business of serving not only the Ellwood City community, but several communities from 6 stores throughout Pennsylvania and Ohio.  They have built their business by working hard, dedication to the areas they serve and their loyalty to their customers.  Mayor Court asks that when you see Mary and Tim that you congratulate them on their success.

Notification of Tax Office Hours

The tax office reminds the community that the last day to pay the face amount on school tax will be Nov. 15 and the office will be open that day from 9a.m. to 1p.m. The office will be closed on Nov. 16.

Election Day at a Glance

Yesterday was quite an intense day for politicians and voters alike; not only was the new president of the United States announced, so were those running for the U.S. Senate, 12th Congressional, and 10th State House. President: Many viewers were on the edge of their seats last night waiting for the result of the 45th presidential election, which was finally announced in the early morning hours. Riverside High School Softball Team Fundraising Breakfast

Riverside High School Softball Team Fundraising Breakfast will be held next Saturday, November 12, from 8a.m. to 11a.m. at Lillyville Church Lighthouse in Franklin Township. Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for veterans since it is Veteran’s Day weekend, children are $5. There will be pictures with Santa and activities for children, residents can meet the new coaching staff, the varsity players will be helping serve food and clean tables. As of current, the raffle will include a chance to win either a lottery basket, Penguin Basket, Steeler Basket or Riverside Basket. Offical flyer below.

Criminal Complaints: Former Festival Treasurer Can’t Stay Out of Trouble

Former Festival Treasurer Recently Accused of Stealing Funds Now Accused of Bad Check According to the criminal complaint, on Oct. 19, a local landlord reported that she had received a bad check from her tenant, Suzanne Bleakney, 50, of Ellwood City. Suzanne was recently facing charges of theft by unlawful taking and theft by failure to make required disposition of funds received, after she accusingly stole upwards of $1650.00 from the Ellwood City Arts, Crafts, Food, and Entertainment Festival bank account during her time working as the treasurer. Local Districts Receive Safe School Grants

Several Beaver and Lawrence county school districts in the 47th Senatorial District were selected to receive state Safe School Initiative grants for the training and compensation of school resource officers and to prevent and reduce violent incidents through programs and security equipment, according to Senator Elder Vogel. The local funds were part of $6.5 million in competitive grants announced by the Pennsylvania Department of Education on Friday, November 4. Star Wars Event

The Ellwood City Public Library is having their Star Wars Event on Sat. Nov. 12 from 1p.m.-3p.m at their library location. The 501st Legion will be providing 12 costumed characters. They do a short program first, including a trivia contest and then will pose for pictures with the kids or adults in attendance afterwards. Two years ago the library had them come for the library’s 100th Birthday which drew a crowd of over 100 people.
