Weekend Weather Advisory: Winter Storm Hunter

Ellwood City and surrounding areas are right in the path for winter storm, Hunter. A winter storm warning has been issued and is calling for between five and seven inches of now, coupled with potential sleet accumulation of a half inch and ice accumulation of one-tenth inch. Parents of children attending the Rochester Area School District were shocked to receive a “security issue” letter yesterday from the school district’s superintendent, Jane Bovalino. Temperatures to Rise, Fall

This week has been much warmer than last, and by Saturday we should be seeing temperatures into the 50’s. Unfortunately the mild temperatures will not last; according to the Weather Channel, Friday will see a high of 51 degrees, Saturday back down to a high of 21, and Sunday with a high of 18. The public has been on the edge of their seats waiting for the results of the River of the Year contest, which were finally announced this week. United Fund Well Short of Fundraising Goal

ELLWOOD CITY — The Ellwood City United Fund has entered its final month of fundraising, fundraising chairman Chip Campbell fears that this years goal may go unmet. The local United Fund organization has been collecting donations since October 2017 with the money raised benefiting and supporting the efforts of the eight (8) agencies that serve the Ellwood City area and beyond. Though donations are being accepted until January 31, 2018, as of now, the organization is looking to come up $9,224.00 short of its goal of $ 50,000.00.
