Ellwood City Area School District Board of Education 2022 Meeting Schedule

The Ellwood City Board of Education has released their schedule for the 2022 committee and regular meetings. All regular meetings will start at 7:00 p.m. and will be held in the Board Room a Lincoln High School, 501 Crescent Avenue, Ellwood City, PA 16117. The Ellwood City Borough Tax Collector Susan Gatto has issued a friendly reminder to borough residents. Please remember to pay the Ellwood City Borough, Ellwood City Area School District, and Per Capita taxes before December 31, 2021. Gatto also would like to remind residents that after December 15th only CASHIERS CHECKS, MONEY ORDERS OR CASH will be accepted.(NO PERSONAL CHECKS) Taxes need to be in my office by December 31, 2021. Biehls, Rozanski to Lead ECASD Board; Pitrelli Appointed to Vacant Seat

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors held its reorganization and regular voting meeting Thursday night. Current Board President Jean Biehls was again named president in a unanimous vote as was Board Vice President Gary Rozanski. They will lead the board in 2022. Kathy McCommons and Norman Boots were relected and will continue their efforts along with Claire Fauzy and newcomer Kathy Tillia. The four directors were sworn in by Biehls. Mayor Court Speaks With Ellwood City Girl Scouts

Mayor Anthony J. Court spoke to the Girl Scouts of Ellwood City, PA on December 8, 2021. Mayor Court spoke on the history of Ellwood City and his duties as Mayor of the city. The children followed with a question and answer period to the mayor. At the conclusion of the evening Mayor Court presented all of the girl scouts with water bottles from the Ellwood City Police Department. “It was very enjoyable and a lot of fun for all,” said Mayor Court in a statement. A special thanks goes to the Girl Scouts for the invite to Mayor Court.

ECASD Announces Plans for Flexible Instruction Days (FIDs)

Ellwood City Area School District recently released a letter to families announcing Flexible Instruction Days (FIDs). FIDs allow the district to conduct remote learning when the weather prohibits safe travel to in person learning at the school facilities. According to Superintendent Dr. Wesley Shipley, the district has been approved to use up to five FIDS during inclement weather conditions. When weather prohibits the safe transportation of students, the District may announce that school is “CLOSED-Flexible Instruction Day.” “This means that schools will operate remotely as we learned to do during the pandemic closures,” Shipley said. “When an FID is called,…

ECASD to Move to Remote Learning for Three Days

Ellwood City Area School will temporarily move to remote learning for the three days leading up to the Christmas Break. The days include Dec. 20, 21, and 22. Teachers and Instructional aides will work remotely with students for a full day on Monday and Tuesday and a half-day on Wednesday. “This is an effort to reduce exposure to COVID prior to the holidays,” said Superintendent Dr. Wesley Shipley. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

CARELESS DRIVING, ELUDING POLICE: Three New Castle individuals are charged after fleeing from police on roadways in Ellwood City on October 30. According to the criminal complaint, at approximately 1:41 a.m, police observed three side-by-side ATV utility vehicles at the intersection of Wampum Avenue and North Street playing music very loudly and revving the engines. As police exited the parking lot of 7-Eleven all three vehicles fled the area and police continued pursuit.
