Riverside Lions Club Celebrates 60th Anniversary

The Riverside Lions Club celebrated its 60th Anniversary at the meeting held earlier this month on Wednesday, February 9th. The meeting was attended by 2nd VDG Maria Loudermilk, and Pam Flara, both members of the Riverside/Hopewell Branch Club. The club played games and 2VDG Maria gave out some prizes, we also enjoyed some cake.  There were handouts with information about what happened in 1962 and the price of things back then. Council Approves New Server for Police Department

Ellwood City Borough Council approved the quote for a Microsoft SQL Server (license & software) for the police department. The $7,254.74 quote approval will allow the police department to upgrade their server, which houses vital information regarding arrests, etc. According to Officer Josh Sipe, the current server dates to 2013. He said it is slow and poses an issue when it comes to safely storing important information that is required by the state. A major weather event brought persistent rain to the area throughout the day on Thursday leading to major flooding concerns and local road closures. Below is aerial video footage of the flood damages of the Connoquenessing River near the Riverside School District and the Connoqunessing Country Club.  The river crested and put parts of Mercer Road and Country Club Drive underwater. POLICE: Weekly Police Blotter

TERRORISTIC THREATS: On February 12 at approximately 11:35 a.m. PSP New Castle was dispatched to a domestic in progress on State Line Road, Enon Valley, Lawrence County. According to the report, it was found that a Kenneth Borer, 33, of Enon Valley, had threatened a 32-year-old female victim with a gun and also punched her in the face multiple times. After a short standoff Borer came out of the house and was taken into custody. Borer was arraigned for charges of terroristic threats, simple assault, harrassment, and bond was set at $10,000. The Ellwood City Area Historical Society convened for their regular monthly membership meeting Monday February 14th. Present Everett Bleakney welcomed the 30 present and Guy Prestia, a World War II veteran led with the Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag. The meeting commenced with Charles Brown presenting the financial report. Robert Morabito, chairman of the Programs and Publicity reported on the future guest speakers.
