Beaver County Conservation District Reminds Residents To Reduce Mosquito Breeding Habitats

Summer is starting to wind down and kids are going back to school, but now is the time of increased viral activity in mosquitoes which can carry West Nile Virus. According to the Beaver County Conservation District, Beaver County has already reported West Nile Virus in mosquito trapping throughout the county this year and the District would like to remind everyone now is a great time to check your property for standing water and dump out any containers holding water to reduce mosquito breeding habitat. Dr. Nick Neupauer To Receive Inaugural Leadership Excellence Award

Dr. Nick Neupauer, an Ellwood City native and the longest-serving chief executive officer in the 57-year history of Butler County Community College, will receive on Wednesday an inaugural leadership award named after a longtime Lawrence County resident. Leadership Butler County on September 7th will present BC3’s president with its first Stan Kosciuszko Leadership Excellence Award during a Celebrate Business Dinner at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. Ellwood City School District Closed Friday For District-Wide Safety Training

The Ellwood City Area School District will be closed on Friday, September 2nd for a district-wide safety training. The district will also remained closed on Monday, September 5th in observance of the Labor Day holiday. “The entire faculty and staff will be participating in an active shooter training on Friday,” said Superintendent Wesley Shipley in a statement. “Because this training is designed for all employees of the district, all district offices and buildings will be closed for the entire day on Friday.” Shipley advised to not be alarmed if you see an increased number of police personnel and vehicles around…

Wampum American Legion Resuming Its All You Can Eat Breakfast Event

After a summer break, the Wampum American Legion Post 749 will be hosting its next All You Can Eat Breakfast on Saturday, September 17th. The group took a break in July and August and are back to serving breakfast for the community. September’s breakfast will be hosted at the Wampum American Legion Club, 436 Beaver Street, Wampum, PA. The breakfast is scheduled to take place from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and will feature scrambled eggs, hash browns, french toast, sausage, biscuits and gravy, bacon, and toast.
