Baney Presents Historical Society With Booklet On Wiley Hill Baptist Church

Monday night at the monthly Ellwood City Historical Society meeting, attorney Dylan Baney presented the Society with a large booklet on the history of the Wiley Hill Baptist Church. Accepting the gift from Dylan is Andy Kindle (pictured right), first Vice President of the Historical Society. Looking on, and standing to left, is Lawrence County Commissioner, Dan Vogler. Baney graduated from Lincoln High School in 2015. He attended Slippery Rock University and obtained a Bachelors degree in political science. REMINDER: Community Garden Poster Contest Deadline Friday

The deadline for the Community Garden Poster Contest is Friday! The Ellwood City Borough Department of Public Works opened up the contest last month to all children between the ages of 4-12 to participate by submitting their carefully crafted and drawn artwork. Space Still Available For Municipal Woman’s Spring Craft Show

Vendor space is still available for the upcoming Municipal Woman’s Spring Craft Show scheduled to take place next month. Ellwood City Area Historical Monthly Meeting Recap

The April 10, 2023 meeting of the Ellwood City Area Historical Meeting was called to order at 7:00PM by Bob Morabito, President, reminding those present of the mission of the Society. He then asked WWII Veteran Guy Prestia to lead the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Morabito announced that Guy will celebrate his 101st birthday on Tuesday, April 25! A commendation was presented to Roberta Page by Mayor Anthony J. Court and Council President George J. Celli at a recent council meeting. Yard Waste Collection Begins in Ellwood City Borough

Yard waste collection began this week and will continue until the end of November, according to the Borough’s Facebook page. Circled days show yard waste collection, shaded days show recycling collection. Green borough yard waste bins are for residents to dispose of their simple yard waste. Yard waste bins are available for purchase for $62.00 and can be purchased at the borough utility office or by calling 724-758-5576. Mayor: “Saturation” Program to Target Unruly Motorists

Mayor Anthony Court announced during Monday’s Borough Council meeting that a “Saturation” program for motor vehicles will be launching in the borough. Not only will the Ellwood City Police Department be ticketing motorists for speeding, but there will also be stops and possible consequences for other violations including such actions as not using turn signals, driving with expired inspections, reckless and erratic driving and other violations of the Pennsylvania motor vehicle codes. Beaver County Local Historians Gathering Oral Histories Related to East Palestine Train Derailment

Darlington – Located in northwestern Beaver County not far from East Palestine, Ohio–site of the now infamous Norfolk Southern train derailment on February 3, 2023–the Little Beaver Historical Society is hosting a public event called “Stories for History” to capture, preserve and share first-hand accounts and memories of the train derailment and its aftermath, including the so-called “controlled burn off” of several chemical tank cars.
