OLD PHOTO FRIDAY: Connoquenessing Creek Overflowing 1970’s

This week’s Old Photo Friday, courtesy of the Ellwood City Historical Society is a photo of Ellwood City’s Mckim Way flooded when the Connoquenessing Creek overflowed. Its banks rose to a three-foot level in some of the cottages, while outside water was waist high in some places. Homes and cottages were evacuated when water rose at a rapid pace and after it crested. Do you remember the overflow of the Connoquenessing Creek? Did you or your family have to evacuate? Ellwood City’s Own Clock Tower Fairy

Cassandra Douglas, Ellwood City Native has written a children’s book centered on the Ellwood City Lincoln Clock Tower. “The Clock Tower Fairy: Ellwood City Tales Book One,” is about a timekeeping fairy, who has to change the clock every hour when her sand timer runs out. The book takes you on a journey of uncertainty, where the clock tower fairy wants to take the night off from changing the time because she is tired. An Ellwood City tradition continued Friday, May 4 at Sons of Italy Hall. For the 71st consecutive year Lincoln High School juniors, seniors and their guests enjoyed the after prom party provided by the Ellwood City After Prom Committee. The prom king and queen of the night were, King Jarrett Lubich and Queen Grace Blake. DJ Ken Raisor of Sabre David Entertainment provided the music for dancing. Other entertainment included Caricature Artist Richard DiGia, a photo booth provided by Clark’s Studio, the close-up magic of Dr. Bradley Brown and Hypnotist, Robert Mullins. New Dimension Comics Hosts 3 Rivers Comicon For 3rd Year!

Featuring comic book vendors, publishers, and over 100 artists, 3 Rivers Comicon returns to West Mifflin.  The convention will take place Saturday and Sunday, May 19 and 20, 2018. 2018 Lincoln High School Prom “Written in the Stars”

The 2018 Lincoln High School Prom “Written in the Stars” will be held on Friday May 4th, 2018 at the Scottish Rite Cathedral, New Castle Pa. The annual Lincoln High School promenade will begin at 5:30. Doors open at 5:00 and tickets can be purchased at the door or in the High School Office. Ticket’s for this years promenade are $3.00 a piece and seating is first come first serve. Following the Promenade students will enjoy dinner and dancing at Scottish Rite Cathedral from 6:00 – 11:00 before returning to the SOI in Ellwood City for the traditional After Prom event….

OLD PHOTO FRIDAY: Counting Souvenir Diamond Jubilee Coins

This week’s Old Photo Friday, courtesy of the Ellwood City Historical Society is Chairman of the revenue division Paul Laurell (left) and Boyd McDowell of McDowell’s Hotel (right), May 10, 1967, counting souvenir Diamond Jubilee coins. The coins were manufactured and used to help publicize the Diamond Jubilee celebration. Ellwood City was founded 1892 and celebrated their 75th anniversary with a series of events throughout the summer of 1967 named the Diamond Jubuilee. The summer featured a street carnival, a grand ball, various church services, musical concerts, fireworks displays and several parades. People were able to obtain the souvenir coins…

The Lawrence County Car Show is a family friendly event featuring cars, face painting and music. The month of April is know as Child Abuse Prevention Month and this event would like to shed light and bring awareness to child abuse, their community and appreciation for our countries resource families.
