Local Dog Owner Starts Petition for Ellwood Dog Park

A dog park is longed for by many Ellwood and surrounding area residents, including a woman named Ashley Fisher, a resident of North Sewickley, who decided it’s time to initiate a change. Fisher started a petition last week, called “Let’s build a Dog Park!” on The Petition Site, which already has nearly 100 signatures. Free Apprenticeship Readiness Program for Students Set for February

Butler, PA- Butler County Community College will offer a free month-long apprenticeship readiness program employing a nationally recognized curriculum designed to prepare 16 participants for applications with Western Pennsylvania building and construction trade unions, according to Kathleen Strobel, BC3’s coordinator of business training. BC3’s apprenticeship readiness program, like that offered by three other Western Pennsylvania community colleges through May, is intended to assist those interested in the trades to successfully apply to and be accepted into tuition-free apprenticeship training programs with 16 unions and their partner contractors, Strobel said. Hockey Ticket Raffle Winner Announced

Mary Maceyko is the winner of the Ellwood City United Fund Hockey Ticket Raffle. The winning number was Pennsylvania Lottery Pick Two # 92, drawn the evening of December 18, 2018. The winner received 4 Pen Hockey tickets($500 value) for the February 27 game, plus $200 spending cash. Moisture Issue at North Side Primary

While the Ellwood City School District works to flush excess lead from some of the taps at each of the schools, they are also working to fix a moisture problem at North Side Primary. The official press release from the district states this fall the district became aware of a moisture issue at North Side. In response, the District hired a company to test moisture and air quality on three separate occasions in three rooms in the basement of the building. The first and second floors were not affected. Lead Analytical Results Show Exceedance at Ellwood City Schools

According to the official results of the first round of the Ellwood City Area School District Lead Sampling and Analytical Results in Water, each of the schools has at least one fountain containing an excess of lead in the water. At Perry Elementary, eight out of the 21 total tested water sources showed an exceedance of USEPA Action Level (0.015 mg/L). Northside Elementary had two water sources that tested over the standard amount, and Hartman had one.
