PHOTOS: Ellwood City Festival

The Ellwood City Festival took place all weekend, there were competitions including the Little Miss Firecracker pageant and Ledger 10K race. Dia Rose Greco, daughter of Robert and Jennier Greco, was named the 2018 Little Miss Firecracker. She was dressed as a USO hostess and gave a salute to the crowd. Doug Petrik was the overall winner of the Ledger 10K race for the fourth consecutive year. His finish time was 35:35.6. Performances by local jazz, country and rock bands kept the music flowing all three days. The festival, as always, finished the weekend with fireworks provided by Zambelli International. Below…

Ellwood City’s 37th Annual Arts, Crafts, Entertainment and Food Festival started today at 11 a.m. The festival will run throughout the weekend ending on July 1 at 10 p.m. We had the chance to go down to the festival and ask some of the vendors questions about why they come to the EC Festival and what they have. The Band is set to perform at the Ellwood City Arts, Crafts, Food and Entertainment Festival on June 30 at 3:30 p.m. In 2002, veteran western Pennsylvania bluegrass mandolinist Bob Artis was invited to put together a one-show-only bluegrass band to perform with the Pittsburgh Mandolin Orchestra at their debut concert to be held in April 2003. Nickel Plated Revolver to Perform at Ellwood City Festival Nickel Plated Revolver is a cover rock band that originated in Ellwood City around six years ago. There are five members in the band, Chrissy Paglia on Vocals, Todd Swogger on Guitar, Dave Fowler on Vocals and guitar, Steve Confer on Bass and Mark Barnes on Drums. Calvin Presbyterian Church Awards Scholarships

Calvin Presbyterian Church recently awarded scholarships to Margaret Behm, Caylin Owens and Alex Vardzel.  Each student was awarded $3,300. Margaret, daughter of Jay and Jennifer Behm, and granddaughter of Judy Brooks, will be studying Early Education with a minor in Special Education.  She received the Dorothy McElroy Scholarship. Caylin, daughter of Tina McAllister, and granddaughter of Dolly and Ed McAllister, is in her third year in the Biology and Pre-Physician’s Assistant program, and will continue after graduation to obtain a degree as an Anesthesia Assistant.  She received the Calvin Church Scholarship. Evan Westlund Wins Ellwood City 2018 Beautification Award

On Monday, Mayor Anthony J. Court was honored to present to Evan Westlund of Mt. Vernon Drive, Ellwood City, the 1st 2018 Beautification Award Winner with a Yard Sign and a Gift Certificate at a local restaurant. This is the 2nd time Evan has been nominated and presented with this Award, once in 2013 at a previous address on Wampum Avenue and now at his Mt. Vernon Drive residence. Ellwood City School District On New Pennsylvania Required Prevention Program

In April, Ellwood City School’s attended the Blueprints Conference at Penn State University. The conference presented a slideshow focusing on new required opioid education for Pennsylvania students grades 6-12 on prevention, risk, protective factors and effective prevention of the opioid epidemic. Ellwood City received a 5-year grant for Life Skills Training in 2013. The grant allowed the school to further implement a prevention program to its students. LST is a Blueprints program that is part of the grant ECASD received from the University of Colorado, Center for the Prevention on Violence.
