Join Senator Vogel for Holiday Open House

State Senator Elder Vogel, Jr. is inviting area residents to kick-off the Christmas season with a holiday open house at his Rochester District Office located at 488 Adams St. on Friday December 4 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. This event is part of the “Beaver County Holiday Celebration Weekend” sponsored by the Beaver County Recreation and Tourism Department. Come in from the cold and enjoy some cookies and holiday joy with Senator Vogel. Attendees are encouraged to bring any new, unwrapped toys for donation to local children enrolled in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve “Toys for Tots” program.


Let There Be Lights Weekend

The Ellwood City Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting Let There Be Lights weekend, December 4-6. The weekend is comprised of several events beginning Friday, December 4 with Light Up Night from 6 to 8 p.m. on Lawrence Avenue between Fourth and Sixth Streets. Activities taking place at the Ellwood City Area Public Library include the following: The library will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 26, in observance of the Thanksgiving Day holiday. Ellwood Christmas in the Park Committee Invites All to Decorate Christmas Tree

The Ellwood City Christmas in the Park Committee is inviting area residents and businesses to sponsor and decorate a Christmas tree as part of this year’s display. The trees will line the final stretch of Christmas in the Park near the bocce court and Kid’s Created Kingdom. Sponsorships are $35 per tree. Proceeds will benefit EnCompass Point, a non-profit after school program for teens in Ellwood City. Wampum Light Up the Town Events

The borough of Wampum invites all to attend “Light Up the Night” on Dec. 3. The event is on Main Street and lasts from 6 to 8 p.m. “Light Up the Night” is sponsored by the Wampum Parade Committee and the Wampum Area Business Association. Mayor’s Christmas Awards

This year will be the fourth year that Mayor Anthony J. Court will be awarding to five local businesses the “Merchants Beautification Award” for 2015. In past years, this was a great success to the area businesses and to the residents. Mayor Court is hoping that all the local businesses will participate and decorate their storefronts, in hopes of spreading Holiday Cheer throughout Ellwood City. As in years past, any area businesses can be nominated for decorating their store front in the Holiday theme that they choose. Reminder to Not Blow Leaves onto Streets

Area residents are asked to not blow or rake leaves (or grass) into the streets. Leaves and grass on the street end up int he storm sewers and could cause backups in the homeowner’s drains. The next yard waste pick up is scheduled for the week of Nov. 15. Those not using yard waste containers may put their leaves in recyclable bags available at the Municipal Building at a cost of 50 cents each. Borough employees will pick up the recyclable bags until Dec. 18, 2015.


Lincoln Wrestling Sub Sale this Saturday

There will be an Ellwood City/Lincoln High School Wrestling Sub Sale on Saturday, Nov. 21. The subs will be sold in the high school parking lot and downtown area beginning at 9 a.m. Subs will be sold for $6 and proceeds will benefit the wrestling program.


November Crime Watch Meeting

The next Crime Watch Meeting will be Thursday, Nov. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers. Speaker at Crime Watch will be Mayor Anthony J. Court and Gary Filippone, representing the Lawrence County DA Office.


“Toys for Tots” Collection Spot at Senator Vogel’s Office

State Senator Elder Vogel, Jr.’s office will be collecting toys for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve “Toys for Tots” program starting today and continuing through Dec. 4. If you would like to donate, please drop off any new, unwrapped toys at the Senator’s office at 488 Adams St. in Rochester. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All gifts will be donated to area children.
