School Crossing Guard to Council: Blinking Signs Not Deterring Speeding

A school crossing guard continued to urge Ellwood City Borough Council to take action against speeding cars at the intersection of 4th and Crescent Avenues during Monday’s regular meeting. Peri Malcolm is no stranger to council or to the Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors as she has attended past meetings to voice her concerns (Malcolm spoke at the October 2025 council meeting and at an ECASD Board of Directors meeting in November of 2025.) ECASD Board of Directors Approves Bids for North Side Primary Capital Improvements

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors voted to award bids for improvement and renovation projects at North Side Primary and Lincoln High School during its regular monthly meeting. The board awarded the following bids for North Side Primary work: General Construction – Fred L. Ellwood City Area School District Now Accepting 2026-27 Kindergarten Pre-Registration

The Ellwood City Area School District is now accepting 2026-27 Kindergarten pre-registration. If you are planning to enroll your child in kindergarten this fall, please complete the form and return it to your child’s school as soon as possible. All prospective parents of the Ellwood City Area School District are eligible. Kindergarten admission is for a child if he/she has attained the age of five (5) years on or before August 15h of that year. No exceptions. Senator McCormick Tours North American Forgemasters and ELLWOOD Crankshaft & Machine

U.S. Senator Dave McCormick visited two leading regional manufacturers on Tuesday, touring North American Forgemasters (NAF) and ELLWOOD Crankshaft and Machine (ECM) in Hermitage to see firsthand the advanced industrial capabilities supporting U.S. energy, transportation, defense, and infrastructure. During the visit, the Senator met with leadership and employees at both facilities and observed production operations that position Lawrence and Mercer counties as critical contributors to American manufacturing. ECASD Board of Directors Table Hiring of Head Football Coach for Special Meeting

Although the Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors, according to the agenda posted on the district’s website, was set to vote to hire a new head football coach during Monday’s meeting, a coach was ultimately not hired. The 7 p.m. public meeting was delayed 50 minutes as the board held an executive session for interviews. When the agenda item was up for a vote, the board tabled the vote for a special meeting to be held on Friday, February 20, at 6 p.m. The board did hire Lilliana Scrima to fill a cafeteria worker position and also approved…
