Brown Announces Area Career and Technical School Receives Grant

HARRISBURG – Rep. Marla Brown (R-Lawrence) today announced the Lawrence County Career and Technical Center in New Castle will receive an $85,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) for the purchase of new equipment aligned to training students in high-demand occupations. “Career and technical education can provide incredible opportunities for students to pursue good-paying jobs in industries critical to our economy,” said Brown. “This grant will help more individuals seize those opportunities and achieve a lifetime of success.” There are more than 80 career and technical centers in Pennsylvania that offer a combination of classes and hands-on-learning programs….

ECASD Board of Directors Approve Changes to High School Curriculum; Face More Feedback from CEPP Group

Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors approved requested changes to the High School Curriculum during the February 8, 2024 regular meeting. The changes were requested by Lincoln High School Principals, Mike Garvin and John Sovich. Garvin spoke previously at the committee meeting saying that the changes would benefit the students and have been a long time coming. One of the big changes is the addition of a Communications requirement, which will help students communicate in today’s ever changing, technology fueled world. New Advocacy Group Formed to Preserve Ewing Park, Oppose Planned Softball Field

A new advocacy group has been formed to preserve Ewing Park. The Citizens for Ewing Park Preservation (CEPP) group was announced during Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors Committee Meeting Monday evening. Chairperson for the group, Karen Mancini, is a resident of Beatty Street, which faces the old Ewing Park School property where the district has proposed and plans to construct a girls softball field. BC3 To Expand Pioneer Pantry To Lawrence Crossing As Part Of $20K Grant

New Castle, PA — A Butler County Community College food security program for low-income students will receive a $20,000 grant that will in part expand a 4½-year-old main campus Pioneer Pantry to BC3 @ Lawrence Crossing and to other BC3 additional locations in Armstrong, Butler and Jefferson counties. BC3 Announces President’s List, Dean’s List and Graduates for Fall 2023

Butler County Community College is proud to announce the names of students who have made the president’s list and dean’s list for the fall 2023 semester, as well as the names of those who have graduated recently. Pre-registration for Kindergarten in the Ellwood City Area School District for the 2024-25 school year is now available. Registration is scheduled for March, but parents need to pre-register their child(ren) first. Ellwood City Historical Society To Award Four Scholarships

The Ellwood City Area Historical Society will award four (4) fifteen hundred dollar ($1,500.00) scholarships this year. All graduating seniors living in the Ellwood City Area School District or the Riverside School District are eligible. Applications and requirements may be obtained from either high school Guidance Counselor, or from the Ellwood City Area Historical Society. ECASD Board of Directors Nominate Candidate to the MIU IV Board; Ewing Park Residents Speak Against Field Usage

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors unanimously nominated new Director Kevin Boariu to the Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV (MIU IV) Board.
