Sesti, Roth Each Will Continue Athletics Careers at Collegiate Level

Two Ellwood City student athletes have signed letters of intent this week. Lincoln High School seniors Milo Sesti and Alexander Roth have each signed letters of intent this week to continue their respective athletic careers at the collegiate level. Sesti has signed his athletic letter of intent to continue his golfing career at California State University, according to Curtis Agostinelli, Ellwood City athletic director, while Roth has decided to continue his athletic and academic career at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The Ellwood Area Education Association recently awarded two scholarships to Lincoln High School seniors Emma Wise and Kyla Servick The scholarships are to be used toward their post-secondary expenses. Emma is the daughter of Gina and Ray Wise and will be attending Penn State University, University Park. Kyla is the daughter of Jolene Krupa and Sam Servick and will be attending Westminster College. Presenting the scholarships to the young ladies is Mrs. Heather Brest, a math teacher at Lincoln and the chair of the EAEA Scholarship Committee.

Historical Society Announces Two Scholarship Winners

The annual Robert and Janice Barensfeld Scholarships were awarded at the Ellwood City Historical Society on Monday. Emily Fox, of Riverside High School, and Mark VanHorn, of Lincoln High School, were the graduating seniors who each earned the the scholarships. The meeting was opened by President Everett Bleakney, who welcomed all present to an exciting evening. Guy Prestia, a WWII veteran lead the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Four Lincoln High School lettermen will be continuing their athletic careers at Westminster College this fall. The four seniors recently signing athletic letters of intent, according to John Sovich, Lincoln Senior High School principal, and Curt Agostinelli, Ellwood City’s athletic director, are Stephen Antuono, Alyssa Jeffcoat, Angelina Nardone, and Kayla Servick. Ellwood City Area School District Begins Capital Improvement Projects

According to a press release from the district, Ellwood City Area School District capital improvements have begun throughout the district. As part of an extensive capital improvement project that includes work at all four district buildings, the most visible project is underway. The district is replacing the track surface and installing turf at Helling Stadium. “The track surface was lifting and was no longer safe and the addition of turf to the football field will allow us to expand the use of the field to so much more than just football. Dozens of different careers were on display at North Side Primary last week as part of Parent Career Day on May 5th. School to work director, principal and 28 different careers were on display for 5, 6, 7 and 8-year-olds. Baby cows, goats, military, tow truck, engineers, EC Forge, EC Fire, Chippewa PD, Vinny’s, a welder….to name a few! North Side Primary School is a K-2 building in the Ellwood City Area School District. Mr. Dan Parson is Elementary Principal/Federal Programs Coordinator.


ECASD Board of Directors Puts Hold on Stadium Lights

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors decided during its Thursday Agenda Meeting to put the purchase of new lighting for Helling Stadium on hold. Dr. Wesley Shipley, school superintendent, said that the project was quoted by Musco lighting at a cost of at minimum $275,000. He said the “Cadillac” lighting system would cost the district at least $344,000. The lighting was not included in the original $2,562,405 budget for the stadium project. The board of directors has schedule the meeting to take pace on Thursday, May 2022 at 6:00 p.m. followed by the already scheduled Committee of the Whole Meeting at 7:00 p.m. These meetings will be held in the Board Room located in the Lincoln Junior Senior High School, 501 Crescent Avenue, Ellwood City, PA 16117
