Ellwood City Routs Laurel In 72nd Little League Tournament Behind Weisz, Nardone

Ellwood City downed Laurel 13-4 Tuesday night in the 72nd Ellwood City Little League Tournament at Freidhoff Field. Ellwood City broke open a close contest with a seven-run outburst in the fourth inning to pull away from Laurel. Anderson Weisz led Ellwood City with a home run, double, and single and Joey Nardone added a double and two singles. Elwood City opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning. Wander Ellwood Extended by An Hour Tonight!

Wander Ellwood is tonight and residents will get an extra hour to enjoy what the city has to offer. Council extended the Wander Ellwood event for July to allow for an extra hour of entertainment, shopping, events and and simply “wandering” the city. The event will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Ellwood City’s own open-air street night hosts vendors, food trucks, and live entertainment among the commerce and small businesses in downtown Ellwood City. Ellwood City Mayor: “Beware of Scams Targeting Local Residents”

Local residents are falling victim to scams, according to Mayor Anthony Court. Court said recently an elderly Ellwood City woman was scammed out of $15,000 by an imposter scam. She was told her family member was being held in a foreign prison and $15,000 was required for release. She will not get the $15,000 back. She later found it that she was the victim of an imposter scam, and she will not get the $15,000 back. Franklin Township To Host 10th Annual National Night Out Event

Come on out and mingle with fellow community members! Franklin Township will be holding their 10th Annual National Night Out Event on Tuesday, August 1st, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Franklin Plaza in Ellwood City. There will be free activities for children, fire safety, CPR training, prize giveaways, and food vendors. The annual event will host approximately 40 vendors for the event.  The event is sponsored by Plassmeyer Towing. Borough Teaming Up with Kitchen Cabinet to Provide Welcome Signs

Ellwood City Borough Council approved a quote from locally owned Signs by Sam for the purchase of two Ellwood City Welcome Signs that will be placed at “entrances” to the city. The signs will cost a total of $7,000. Local nonprofit organization The Kitchen Cabinet will provide $3,500 of the amount in cooperation with the borough that will provide the other $3,500 from the L&N fund. ECASD Approves Plan to Construct New Softball Field, Renovate Baseball Field

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors unanimously approved a plan to commit to improving district softball and baseball facilities. The plan, provided by HHSDR in an athletic facility study, includes a newly constructed softball field on the Ewing Park School property and renovations to the existing baseball field as recommended by the ECASD Board Athletic Committee. The $3,329,000 project will be funded via a local athletic capital campaign, led by local resident Bill Nardone.
