Lincoln High School will award 117 diplomas to the Class of 2016 at commencement today at 7 p.m. Eight students earned high honor recognition and two students honor recognition. Senator Vogel Seeking Local Photos for 2017 District Calendar

Senator Elder Vogel is calling on residents to submit photos capturing the spirit and beauty of the 47th Senatorial District, with the top entries to be featured in his 2017 calendar. Contestants can submit two photos per category (spring, summer, fall and winter). The top three vote-getters in each group will serve as a featured month in Senator Vogel’s 2017 “Scenes from the 47th Senatorial District Calendar.” The contest is open to all individuals, children and adults, but photos must have been taken within the boundaries of the 47th District. The contest will remain open for submissions until Aug. 31….


WPIAL Softball Game Postponed

The Ellwood City-South Park WPIAL playoff softball game, originally scheduled for today at 11 a.m., has been postponed to tomorrow at 4:45 p.m. The game will still be held at the California University of Pennsylvania in California, Pa. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students.

Paint Your World Purple Survivor Luncheon Sunday, June 5,  2 to 5 p.m. If you have had cancer 30 minutes or 30 years, you are a SURVIVOR!!! WPIAL Preview: Undefeated Lady Wolverines Preparing for South Park

The Ellwood City girl’s softball team is one game away from a WPIAL title, but if they’re nervous, they aren’t showing it. At a practice on Friday, the girls displayed their usual mix of enthusiasm and dedication combined with a devoted sense of fun. For tomorrow’s game against South Park at California University, the Lady Wolverines are using the same approach they have all season: taking it one game at a time and trying to get better every day. Riverside Wins WPIAL Title

Senior Braden Bentel hit the WPIAL-winning run in the bottom of the ninth as Riverside clinched the WPIAL title from Neshannock in a 1-0 game. Riverside and Neshannock stood toe-to-toe for an extended nine-inning game as pitchers Michael Boswell and Frank Fraschetti dueled. In the bottom of the ninth, senior Kolby Wolf got on base on a throwing error. Wolf advanced to second on a sacrificial bunt by sophomore Austin Dambach. Wolves Club 2016 Scholarships

Through the years, the Ellwood City Wolves Club, established in 1948, has awarded well over $200,000 in scholarships to Lincoln and Riverside high school seniors. President Mike DeOtto said that “Our Ellwood City Wolves Club members are proud to continue their long history of presenting educational scholarships and grants to area high school seniors,” President Mike DeOtto said.
